Bob, I also had the pleasure of seeing Charlie's Mustang back in 1990. A phenomenal airplane. Unfortunately he had a number of engine problems and I only got to see it fly for a very brief period. (which ended badly!) If Siewart is willing to sell parts and pieces from his kit then enlargine the Platt or Taylor plan to 84 inches would be a fine idea.

Steve, the fuse I have is is framed and sheeted from the longerons down. It still needs to be sheeted on top and the nose added, etc. Given enough time I would be more than happy to finish it up as a plug if I had someone comitted to molding it. Of course, that someone would have to have some experience with the process. All I would ask in return would be a couple of finished fuselages.

I have bought the Brian Taylor 69" wingspan parts from
Bob Holman Plans. It was my first scale building project, and
I must say that Brian Taylor makes outstanding plans.
Now that I'm almost done with my P-51 I can see I made
the right choice.

Bob Holman sells the Unitract retracts and Mick Reeves Oleo
struts for this model, too.

The next warbird I build WILL DEFINITELY be a Brian Taylor
design.

Chad, you know the logical choice would be to take the Taylor plans and find an engine/exhaust that would fit enclosed. Or at least for the most part. With those air cooled planes thats always the problem.. A rear Intake Rear Exhaust 50 size engine would be a good starting point ?.. BobH.

The glass is top quality.

Looks like a sweet kit. Glass fuse looks great. Fairing and
everything! What a time saver.

How much does this kit sale for?

I gather from all the postings that Brian Taylor Mustang Plan is the most accurate scale.

and bob holman plans offer them for 25 + shipping.

it is however unclear to me whether Brian Taylor plan mustang has only fiberglass fuse or you can have balsa/ply fuse?

The Brian Taylor plans show a built up balsa fuselage. Holman offers a fiberglass fuselage as an option for those who prefer glass.

Again, for what it's worth...I have the Aerotech Mustang and am convinced that it is the "most scale" Mustang out there. I compared all the pieces/parts from the kit to the CAF's Mustang (Red Nose) while it was here at CAF HQ for a lengthy engine change and other maintenance: dead on in all dimensions. I've built several Top Flite -51s and have the ARF 1/5 Mustang: they aren't even close to "scale." The Platt Mustang is much better, and the Meister Scale Mustang (from many years ago) is also good. I'm not familiar with the BT version...only messed with a Taylor Hellcat and was very impressed with it's accuracy.
The cost of the Aerotech is significant, but if scale is what you want that would be the way to go from my perspective.

could you specify which areas are the most obviously incorrect on the TF version?

I finally pressured the wife to get me a P-51 for Christmas

Scalecraft: Does the BT F/G Fuse come with formers or do they have to be scratch made? If so does it come with templates?
Are the retracts that Bob Holman offers air or mechanical?

Thanks

The TF Mustang fuse is the main "out of scale" thing that jumps out at you when you do some measuring...in simple terms it is "too fat" which makes the canopy too wide and it sits down too far on the fuse. The cockpit dash is also wrong, which makes the instrument panel wrong. Obviously the wing is not a laminar-section...hinging of the flaps isn't that accurate. However, at ten feet or at 100 mph it will look good enough for almost anybody. I don't mean to knock the kit or the ARF; just wanted to add my view re: which is the most scale Mustang available.

Stalker, generally the fiberglass parts from Holman are available as options to the Brian Taylor plans and do not include anything in the way of formers or templates. Holman assumes that the builder has the necessary skills and experience to engineer and generate their own parts and make any changes necessary to make the glass parts work with the Taylor plans.

Does the Holman glass fuselage for the Brian Taylor 69" Mustang have panel lines and rivet details?
