Thanx,
So far I have the following manufacturers:
Byron
Ziroli
Top Flite
Model Tech
Fiber Classic
Aerotech
Great Planes

That should keep me busy researching each kit.

Seeing as you have Ziroli on your list, you should add the 69" Brian Taylor (via Bob Holman) Mustang . He also has plans and parts like Ziroli, not a 'kit'. You'll also find it to be very scale, which I gather is what you are after.

Ziroli offers a glass fuselage for his P-51.

I make a kit for full wood OR wing and tail for Ziroli's P-51.

Nick's P-51 is a 96" wing span.

We have a TF Giant P-51, the lines are close to perfect, although not exactly the same as the full-scale.

I thought the FiberClassics only came in the Col. John D. Landers' "Big Beautiful Doll" color scheme of the 78th Fighter Group, 84th Fighter Squadron, 8th Air Force out of Duxford, England?

Here's a little trivia...Everything Landers flew from the Pacific theatre (P-38) to the European theatre (P-47, P-51) was named Big Beautiful Doll.

Here's mine...

I would also add Dave Platt's offering to the list.

I believe there is another thread on RCUniverse about Dos Steed's Mustang plans. They used to be sold through Bob Holman, and I believe someone was looking into whether these were still sold.

From what I understand, Dos' plans are extremely accurate and detailed.

I would have to agree with "smchale" with his choice for scale. If you want dead-nuts scale, not to mention a very light great flying aircraft, you can't beat Mr. Taylor. I have one of his Spits. One word..................SMOKIN. Just order a set of B.T. plans, that alone will convince you. Good luck in your search.

I have the 69" BT P-51D. It is true to scale. All the dimensions were
taken from the P-51 D at the museum in Duxford. It even has the Laminar flow wing, which makes for minimal gear clearance.
Still most immpressive for around $225-250.

Epoxy glass fuse, Alum spinner ,bk plate, vac form canopy, drop tanks, glass cowl, glass scoop, plans, laser wing ribs.

Air retracts around $300.00 I think.

The Fiberclassics is in a class of its own. Its all scale detailed 100% composite. Even has the offset Vstab. It comes in silver.

It is also over $2,000 new for basic airframe.

Ofcourse, you can make a Taylor look just like a F-classic for a lot less.

...Bob, yes that is a very good website.

That's where I went to get most of the info about the "Doll" and Landers.

More trivia...the P-51D "Big Beautiful Doll" of John Landers went into service on February 20, 1945 in Duxford. Believe it or not, that's the day of my birthday (Feb. 20)!

Stallion, the Mustang. "Sherman was right" would be another subject worth modeling. Frank Oiler was the pilot of that plane and he flew the P-47 D version.. named " Eileen".. I am doing a Yellow Jug with that scheme..
Isn't it possible to upscale the Brian Taylor Mustang to get it to the 80" inch range?.. maybe about the size of the Aerotech / TF 1/5 size planes? If his plans are very scale.. that would be a really good plane to build at the larger size..
Just thinking here.. lol... what is needed other than a canopy?.. heck we could get canopies from Aerotech and the exhausts!!.. dang.. !!. BobH.

Bob, yep, Sherman Was Right is also thought to be a popular plane of the 78th's FG 84th FS.

If I do another one, I'll do it in Richard Hewitt's "Big Dick"--before everyone gasps, Big Dick denotes double five's on dice.--

I recently read his book "Target of Opportunity" about his adventures in Jug's and 'Stangs. It's a very good read if you get a chance. Mr. Hewitt and I keep in contact. He's very cool!

As far as blowing up Taylor's plans, that sounds like a good feasible idea.

I wonder how the Byron P-51's compare scale-wise to the others?
