Time to cover again ughhh. Anyway, whats nice about see thru covering, or transparent is its sure easy to see those hinge lines. That and it looks great, but of course if you can see the wood grain, your better off, I think, wish I whould of done it all transparent. But any debrie or flaws in wood, are also transparent, meaning you can see it. AS we can see we have elevator now and ailerions have 3 times the movement. Atleast I know she will fly now. I also didnt bevel leading edges near enough. and those tabs I left in didnt get cut out, good enough too. Were back me and that Aero-Master.

To be honest I wound up using monocote to seal the gap. But the hinges held it in place while I covered it, then too, It assured me It was worth covering. Remember, Im struggling here.

You seem to have enough movement now. Remember this is a sailplane, most the time you want very small movement of the surfaces. One thing that will make it a much better flier is to make sure you have at least twice the up in the ailerons as you have down. The differential makes all the difference on long wings due to the fact that you lessen the assymetrical yaw.

3 days off , were going to try to get as much done as I can. My easy star hop up took all my spare time during work days.New servos on the easy star wer thinner so I had to shim them out, with hard wood. New control linkages had to be soddered etc. But Ive got plenty of throw now. This saturday she goes in the air, as well as the glider pro. Also had trobles with the stock easy glider, the elevator come apart last weekend and it was warped. I used tape to hinge and put a carbon fiber rod to get the elevator even on the trailing edge. Back too the Aero-Master. The connecting tube for wing joiner came lose when I pulled the wings apart, so we erglued. This time however, I kept it flush on on side so I could file the opposite. Now I can get the wing saddle fit closer. The folding prop assembly is from Hobby Lobby. Its a aero naut 9 by 7 folding prop. Motor is a 3542-10 1000 rpmv kv brushless from headsup rc. Also from heads up a 40 amp speed controler. Als a picture of assorted wires and shrink tubes from heads up. Leta see if I can get her all hooked up here. Also a picture of last saturdays local flying feild. arons planes a electric bird of time. and a picture of all three multiplex planes that are ready to fly

Had too replace battery for flycam2 I traded for. It whould only run for about 5 min. So hope this fixes it. The replacement has a plug that needed to be soddered, so now its a easy change out.

Used a flat file too the brass tube wing joiner, to get the wings closer to the fuse. Then I marked the holes and drilled the motor mount to accept the motor. Also a opening under motor for air to escape the motor pylon. Had to use flat file to shape mount to the inside of the fuselage. Took out little as possiable for strength. Took alot of fitting here, had raised lumps of glue, etc on the inside that was interfering with flush fit of mount. This was left over for when the factory put the fuse together. After a flush fit of mount, I glued the mount to the front of the motor. Now we had to trim inside of hatch opening to allow motor casing to spin freely. Cut out opening in front of motor pylon for incoming air.Thrust both down and right were designed in at the factory. Then I used 5 min epoxy on the inside of mount then put the mounting screws for motor from the outside and pulled her snugg. The folding prop assembley was easy enough as well as the 40 amp esc. Plugged right end.Temper settled when job was completed, looks good, and done right. Then too, did some struggling here. Hatch has to be fitted to motor pylon will do this at the end, when its running. aero-naut is the maker of this plane, by the way.

couldnt sleep, so I compared the bird of times arf fuselage that i got today shipped ups from tower. I was surprised the times fuse was still heavier even tho I have the motor in the Aero-master. Then too areo master was just a tad longer than the time. Taller too beings hows its a pusher. Im going to bash the bird of time. Electric assist and spoilers. Proberly wont post tho, not enough interest out there, and its proberly been posted better than i could. I am still looking for it tho theres really no step by step for the bird of time arf, like Im trying to do here.

The Bird of time, Has a 9oz cast steel plug in the front for balance from the factory. I converted my first generation BOT. The nice thing is your 350watt system in this build is perfect fit for your Bird of Time.I will try to post a few pictures from my conversion. The removal of said plug, my nose weight, NiMh battery, & switch equalled the conversion ready to fly. 16oz removed, 16oz added after paint.
Man does it ever climb, and likes the wind. This winter I will add spoilers, and change the bottom color darker. Really hard to see at 1500ft. Take a few pictures as you go on that build too. You are doing a good job, I have been watching everyday. Interested in seeing your 3 blade folding prop installed. What it lookes like folded, Did they recomend this prop over a solid prop? Being a pusher, would a solid prop, with no brake work as well freewheeling? Let us know how noisy it is after flyimg it.
My E-BOT was completed in 48 hrs, flying to check my motor angles, then painted it the next weekend. Looked like an old buzzard with all the bondo on its nose that week! Put in lots of down thrust! 5* minimum

thanks snuts i appreciate your sharing your knowledge and experience. It was a beautiful day here in Idaho, its about time as well, been a long winter it seems . At the flying feild today the stock easy star flew good took up twice. The easy glider pro was flown and boy it does fly. some of the mixes was elevator to motor and more up than down and etc. I didnt fly it , for I wrecked my first plane the hopped up easy star,. The hopped up easy star went up in the air twice before the crash, however, and it flew like no tomorrow , even really bowed the wings, I mean it was something. I however had crashed and glued the tail area from last year when I was learning. And on the 3rd flight it whouldnt turn or go up, just upside down in the ground. And it was over a hill at the site beyound the boundries of the feild. But its my opinion the old repairs failed, and in she went. Ill get a new fuselage for I whouldnt trust it on another run. There was a couple of helicopter pilots flying there today, and I noticed a full size real helicopter when I arrived there today. It was my first time at this rc airport for there was soccer kids at the feild. Anyway when these helicopter pilots got in there day, and there hot doggers too, they got into the real thing and left. Now thats hard to beat. My fly cam was dead, I think I had the switch on. But it was a great day all in all, met some good peolpe. Lost a little confidence when the star went in so I didnt fly the pro, Aronn took it up tho, the help I have a good pilot, and has helped alot. So back to building, It was a great day. Seems my inexperince had doomed the hopp up star my ignorance from last year. But what a great sport, Im hooked

well I considered using a plywood plate for the aileron servos, but chose just mounting them directly in the hole in the wing. Partly for the thickness my servos had no room to be postioned if I made things thicker.I sanded the servo surface for better adhiesion, then postioned servo for the best alignment for the aileron. Plugged the servo lead into my easy star to find the center, and to test movement after installation. I used control horns from local hobbyshop, didnt like the ones supplied, you cut a grove for those suppilied ,made out of grp, then epoxied them in place. The ones from the hobby shop used wood screws and was bolted thru, which i liked alot better. A bit tedious to keep them lined up with servo and its important to make sure when you drill your holes to keep them straight, otherwise its very diffacult to to get screws started in your mounting plate on the otherside of the aileron. The screws were sharp after they were cinched down, and had to use dremmel to whack them off. I then put a drop of ca to keep them from coming lose. The supplied aileron control lingage was nice to install, with the allthread rod , and screw on clevises. Should i crimp these to the control rod? But anyway nice movement after all was said and done and proberly will have to adjust that down. I went ahead and used a wash and sketch pencil to add a rabbit then painted it in with acrilics. That wing was bare. then I hand stripped where the to colors of monocote came together. Too much coffee i might add

The GRP horns are the prefered method.

It's better to put a "Z" bend on on end, a clevis on the other. Two clevises will unscrew so most use locking nuts, I would just dap a little Goop on the two clevises and rod and leave it at that now though.

well there you have it. aero-naut is supplying the best hardware and being a beginner, made a mistake there. I appreciate being straightened out And then too learned something which is great. On the bullet conectors, from esc to motor will that be good enough or should I sodder the wires directly.

Got a pic of it assembled? Looks good! I just use the bullet connectors instead of soldering them, and haven't had any problems yet. If you do solder them though, just use connectors until you check motor rotation, could save a bit of time if you solder it up and motor turns wrong way .

thought Id get the inside fitted with componets then final assembeled pictures. I appreciate your post here tho, and advice. after hours of studying plans and instructions, for they are not that clear in my opinion, I decided to think things out, and do what I felt was best. For one, I went ahead and put the battery tray in first which is a few steps ahead of the instructions. Reasons are to help locate the servo tray which is supposed to be first. Then too didnt want to destroy servo installtions, by fooling with battery tray last. Ive got fat hands. So I cut the corners of battery tray to move it forward a little and used 5 min epoxy for all these wood installations in this post. Battery tray comes in 3 pieces, and i made the mistake of glueing it to gether before it was set in the fuse. Big mistake, had to break apart then assemble it in the fuselage. Servo tray was a bit wide, so I trimmed it down to get the right hieght inside the fuselage. Then marked out servos on the servo tray. I noticed the plastic servo holder for packaging was a perfect template for this step. Alot better than using the servo its self. Used dremmel for cuts and rotory file to finish servo openings. Then to used file to bevel bottom of tray for closer fit to the sloping fuselage. Also took a corner off servo plate supports, that I had adeed to the bottom of servo plate. Used hard wood for that, so hopefully it will be strong. Also out of sequence here I sanded the inside, then wiped out with windex before glueing anything.

I can't help but notice that your prop is not set up as a pusher. I'm sure you caught that by now. It's nice to see all the effort that you are putting into keeping us informed as you go. Is 2.4 the preferred radio systems where you are flying? Enjoy -Snuts-

5 minute epoxy isn't the best for putting bulkheads into glass fuses, I don't like bulkheads in glass fuses at all but that's me. 5 minute epoxy is the most brittle of the epoxies, but unless you use glass tabs I don't like any epoxy for the job. If I where to put a bulkhead in a glass fuse I'd use Goop, E6000, or this:
http://www.hobby-lobby.com/p.f.m_adhesive-sealant_3.7_oz._2851_prd1.htm?pSearchQueryId=14861
they hold well and won't pop off the epoxy fuse.

well snuts i did not notice that the prop was wrong and thank you for bringing that to my attention. When I went to the flying feild a couple of weeks ago I noticed there were a few fm. I use spectrum radio myself. The 2 guys I get to pester once in awhile use both. Again thanks for your posts. I am struggleing more than you know. For one just noticed I lost the backing plate forsupplied control horn for the elevator. Be nice if I had a wife or kids to blame, but its a bacholer pad. Ive cleaned up as I was search tho and have a spare.

Thanks rich i was wondering about that. And you seem to know your stuff. Wish you was here. Do you think I can use some gorilla glue over what has been done in hopes it whould seep thru enough to reinforce. Or do I strip it all out wait for the glue and stop construction.

No continue putting it in with the 5 minute, I'd find one of those 3 glues and put a fillet on the joints later.

The Goop you can get at any hardware store, it comes in many types, I think they are all the same, at least I can't find any difference between them, they all work.

The E6000 I get at AC Moore, a girly craft-store, it's slightly thinner than Goop.

The other one is from HobbyLobby, I haven't used it in years, but I think it was like Goop just 3x the cost.

I don't think I would use Gorilla glue for fillets.

You can mix some balsa dust to mix in the epoxy to help make fillets, chopped fiberglass is better though.

next installing snake sleeves inside of the fuslage. The rudder exit in the fuse had to be finished trimmed out, used rotory file on dremmel. The elevator stab assembely you have to make the hole for the snake sleeve where it exsits the top of the fin. For this I choose too mount the elevator and stab assembly, cutting out the covering to the mounting holes, and drilling a pilot hole for snakesleeve after it was mounted. It was flimbsy for sure with out the tailpost support for the rudder. New this next step wasnt going to be easy and is not really clear in the directins. But after studing the picture where they have one i went whith 2. Beveled leading edge of support member to where it whould fit in the leading edge of fin. Then marked the trailing edge , Then I used the tailpost as a guide for the width to be cut back so tailpost will fit flush. Then drilled a hole so snake sleeve whould fit thru.

Bad news for me and you guys are going to think im a idiot, but I promised to post it all, bad or good. Upoun using two tailpost supports and taking sleeve apart to fish to the servo plate i kinked it. Tried to put the control rod or even force it by pressue and twisting the snake sleeve was destroyed all plastic rods kinked. Contruction stops untill a new rod is purchased.

Not only that but I had taken my radio out for aileron sevos earlier today, and didnt put it up left it on top of file cabinet next to work bench. So when I was trying to get that last picture I knocked it off with the fuselage, engrossed on trying to get a good shot. It landed on the landing gear switch, that fell thru the case. It still comes on however . Whould I be able to use it with out it, or like it is, or am I grounded? Anybody out there ever go thru this? Not a good day for me here.

And last week when I was soddering the baterry in my fly cam. It didnt run after the fix it job. I then understood by rereading ur suppost to sodder wires to pc board not leave leads like I did. So when I was fooling with it the wires come lose from the pc board and I had no idea where they were. So thats the end of that camara. But new one is coming I learned from it. Next page things are bound to be better. Oh I also got frustrated for I lost the lens cap as well. Free camara if anyone wants it.
