Hey anyone running this setup? Im running 7.2v 3600 Venom packs and getting into heat issues. I have a 11.1 lipo on the way, what is the recomended gearing/esc ect... settings to run with this setup to avoid cooking the motor? Or is there a fan setup i can purchase to keep them cool?

Thanks.

23t pinion 90t spur is what the hpi book that came with my hpi flux 5700 (its the same motor as the mamba max just different name) i ordered the spur already had pinion and totally noticed a difference...im running a 5100 nimh with no overheating problems...was at local races friday and car was running clean...a fan setup might be hard because where can you put it...

Yea i noticed that the HPI Flux was a castle system. Is it programmable like the castle? If so what you got your motor timings on? Right now im using the castle link and got mine set on lowest. I just thrashed it outside for about 35 min or so on one 7.2v Venom 3600 pack(Still cant believe i got that kind of run time...), i also changed the stock pinion for a 23t that i had from my slash trucks (per your advice) but i dont have anything bigger then the stock 87 spur. The motor and esc was warm but not too bad. Didnt have a thermal temp sesnor but i would guess they were both around 140ish. What i am afraid of is once i get this Lipo 11.1 2800 pack is that i am going to fry the esc/motor. I know the motor can withstand about 190ish max but the esc im not to sure of. I was reading on Castles site and they were saying that you dont have to worry about the Max system.... However i am experiencing differently.

I had similar problems with the slash's and the Velineon systems but i cured that by running 23 86 gearing and putting a heasink and fan on the motor and a fan on the esc. Now the only thing i have to worry about is breaking stuff on it. Motor never gets above 150ish and the esc never above 140ish. I was hoping that with this small light street car that i wouldnt experience near the heat issues. I thought most of my problems with the slash was because it was so much heavier then most the 1/10 scale vehicals.

yes it is programmable same as the mamba, my castle link is on order i use my buddies on race nights will have to check what my timings are at and let you know. the spur gear is had to order from hpi. not for sure about the lipos yet i have not changed over yet, but from what i hear car will run a hell of at faster not to sure about cooler...yeah the max esc is suppose to be the best one that castle has to offer, i had problems with mine the first night because we didnt turn off the low voltage cutoff but i fixed that and its been running smooth so far...i also heard that sometimes when you get a esc it could just be a bad one right out of the box....check with the hobbystore you got it at they might trade it if they can....

Well, what I did was I mounted two Integy Super Motor Heatsink+ Cooling fans to the motor and on top of the ESC to keep things cool. It's a tight fit in back on the motor but will work. I notched part of the heat sink so the belt would not hit the heatsink. It's a pain in the butt taking it apart to get it in but well worth the effort. For the ESC I just removed the two fan mounts from the motor heatsink and drilled two holes in the upper plate and attached the fan back on the to brackets so it stays in place. Both mods work well and keep mine cool.
