fenderjw -> Eclipse 7 and Airtronics RX's (3/26/2002 6:11:35 PM)

I bought a brand spankin new Eclipse 7 last year specifically because of its ability to control both pos and neg freq shift rx's. I have no problem at all with my futaba rx's but the airtronics rx's glitch like crazy. These are the older (non "Z") rx's that work just great with my old vanguard tx. I sent the radio and two of the three rx's in for service. I got a note back from your service department that said that they tuned or aligned my tx to match my rx's but that I should check the sensativity of my rx's. The rx's still dont work with anything other than my vanguard tx. They still giitch (fullly lock my servos at travel limit) my aritronics rx's. My brand spankin new eclipse will not control these recievers!. I am very disapointed with the radio because of this defect. I feel that my rx's are not the problem because they work just fine with the old vanguard. I have already replace one of the three airtronics systems that I own with a futaba flight pack. This solved the problem with that plane. Is there something I am missing here? Why does my new radio (which I'm happy with otherwise) not control rx's that have worked fine for years and still work with my old vanguard tx? Is this a common problem with this radio?

Thanks
Jim Fender

I checked with the service department to see what was done. They said that they tuned the Spectra down to the point where it would work with your older receivers although they had very poor sensitivity. If the Spectra were to be tuned any lower it would not work with the negative shift receivers. Since the sensitivity was so low on the older Airtronics receivers, having them retuned by Airtronics should solve the problem.

Mike.

Thanks for responding sir. I am by no means a radio expert, but seems to me, if the problem were with the RX's then they would not work with my old trusty vanguard 6, which they word flawlessly with. They only glitch with the Eclipse! :confused: Is my reasoning flawed in some way?

Thanks again
Jim

Let me say that I can understand your frustration. However, your analogy is not necessarily true. Because the sensitivity was so low, they do not recognize the signal from the Spectra module as they do from the Airtronics transmitter. We know that the more modern positive shift receivers don't have any problems with this system. Tuning the receivers should solve the problem.

If you would like to discuss this further, I recommend you contact our service manager Tony @ (858)748-6948 x 308

Thanks for the help Mr. Mayberry.

Siskiyouline -> Same problem (4/29/2002 11:21:42 AM)

I too am having the same problem with my Airtronics receivers. They are on channel 26 and I have servo jitter/lock with the Hitec Eclipse radio. I guess I screwed-up thinking that I could get away with replacing my Vanguard transmitter with the Hitec. I will try to get the receivers re-tuned and see what happens.

Same as you the Hitec works fine on all the Futaba and Hitec receivers in the other planes.

Thanks for the info!!

Bud

Having the receivers retuned did not solve the problem. In my opinion the problem is still with the Eclipse. I sent my radio and rx's off to Radio South for tuning/alignment and they still did not work together. I was told by the Radio South folks that they could not get the rx's tuned to the radio. They could tune the spectra module to work with the rx's but then they probably would not work with the futaba/hitec rx's that I have. I solved the problem by selling my Eclipse 7 (kept the spectra module) and buying a used Futaba 8u. I am now in the process of replacing my Airtronics rx's with Futaba and Hitec models. I was very dissapointed in the Eclipse radio. Besides the problems with the Airtronics rx's, it wouln't allow me to program in "crow" mixing on my Ultra Stick either :mad:

Good Luck
Jim

Send in your tranmitter with the spectra module and one of the Airtronics receivers and we will make sure it will work with both types of receivers.

Mike

fenderjw,

No one ever claimed the Hitec Eclipse was capable of quad-flap programming. Aside from that limitation, that TX is fantastic. I have two radios. A Hitec Eclipse which I use for most of my airplanes -- each on a separate frequency and a Futaba 8UA which I use for my Ultra Stick. Since I'm not into Airtronics I have no affinity for your problem but I sure don't have a problem with my mongrel mix of Hitec, Futaba, GMS, and FMA RXs.

I did not mean to imply that the radio was a bad one. Just the opposite. On those rx's with which I could get it to work (Futaba, Hitec, GWS) it worked fine. And I did not buy it specifically to do the crow mixing on the H9 US. The problem was that I DID buy it because it was supposed to work with both Pos and Neg shift rx's. IT DIDN'T. I sent it (and two of my Airtronics rx's) in to hitec to have them "re-tune" everything. When I got it back after 2 weeks (and 2 of the only nice weekends that we have had to fly yet this year) without a radio, it still did not work with ANY of my airtronics stuff. The hitec service guys told me that the "sensitivity" of my old rx's (WHICH WORK FINE with my stylus :mad: ) was questionable and that they should be replaced. The fact that it would not fully control the H9 US (Even though it does do a form of crow mixing in sailplane mode minus throttle control :confused: : Take a look at the manual and you'll see what I mean) was just the straw that broke the camel's back. BUT...... I do LOVE that spectra module. It works like a champ in my 8U :D

Yep, that irrigate me too -- close but no cigar. In Glide-4 mode it will do butterfly but you can't change the control away from the throttle stick. At one time I did try to set everything up with PMIXs but ran out of capability in a hurry. Hitec's response for why you can't switch control from throttle stick to a switch was that it was too expensive to design into the radio.
