Oops I meant a 40LA will that work well? I was thinking about the 46fx while typing and acidently put in 46 instead of 40. So tell me what you think of the 40.

I have built and flown several deb's with the 40 la and it did quite well.Remember it is a trainer and not meant for burning holes in the sky.The LA likes the 10x6 or 5 and 11x4 MAS props.

I arrived back from the field about 1-1/2 hours ago from taking the Deb on it's maiden flight. All I can say is... WOW!

The picture isn't that good, but here it is on a fly-by.

Well David I guess it is time to tell you the bad news now!! You will see flight different(as to what will fly and might fly) ,ride down the street different, going to the grocery store will be different, and even look at yourself different in the mirror!!! And you ask why??? Because as you do all those things you will be looking for all sorts of materials to build a SPAD from. Also have restless nights trying to figure out how to build something from plastic that will fly It is called a Spadaholic and it is a sickness we all have to live with.

I'm really quite stunned at how well this plane flew, no bad characteristics at all. A balsa buddy of mine went with me and he was also amazed at how well it flew. He's been flying for thirty years and he thoroughly enjoyed flying it. The plane did nice loops, rolls, tip stalls and would "kite" nicely when put it into the wind on idle and up elevator.

Here it is taxiing in from it's first flight.

You're right. I've already begun thinking about what I'm going to build next.

Here's the Deb, my van and my son.

I told you so!

I flew my Deb 6 times today. I was too windy to fly anything made out of B@l$a.

My club is getting together to build a couple of Deb's to use as trainers to give some of the kids that hangout at the field a chance to fly before their parents have to shell out the big dollars. We think that a lot of kids don't get a chance to start in the hobby because their parents think it's just another fad. We have decided to provide the answer.

When it came time to decide what plane to use somebody said "How about that plastic thing Captain flies".

I used some parts that came with my Sig Kadet Senior ARF, like the 8oz fuel tank and the nose gear. The tank worked out nice, but the nose gear is weak as can be. I may have to convert it to a tail-dragger.

I used a MAS 11x7 prop but I think I'll put an 11x6 on it and see how it does.

David,

Do yourself a big favor and get a Fult's nose gear.I beleive they are about $13-15 but very tough gears. They have a double strut and a axle.I have had a few of them they cannot be beat ,hands down. If not, just convert to a tail dragger,it will save time and money.

I just looked at the Fults nose gear and it looks like it would do a much better job.

Has anyone used this prop balancer?

I think you may wanna try a 11x5 or 12x4 prop on the .46. The 11x7 is way too much pitch, remember this is a trainer plane I think the 12x4 will probably be the best all around prop,IMHO.

What is the advantage of using the 12" prop and lower 4 pitch vs. the 11x5? Seems like we're going in opposite directions of the 11x7 that's on it now.

More thrust at lower throttle settings for the lower pitch props. 7" prop is for speed
