What about the brass shaft of the EZ connector rubbing on the steel throttle arm hole.

Same deal...  Use a plastic clevice and you can't go wrong.   In my past building experience I would cut the cable and solder a 4-40 or smaller threaded end on it similar to this: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXK089&P=0  and used these to connect to the throttle arm on the carb: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDMH2&P=0 .

Using the larger flex cable may preclude you from using this setup...

Cheers,

You can also use a ball-socket setup on the throttle arm.  This is non metalic (plastic) and gives you an approach angle that does not have to be straight.

I have the brass solder couplers so I can use a clevise or the ball-socket setup what does everyone think I should use.

If it were me I'd reverse what you've done thus far.  Move the coupler that you have installed to the servo horn so that you have an easy way of adjusting the linkage length and then solder the brass clevise to the other end at the engine.  Indeed if you have the space to allow a ball-socket setup at the engine then install it.  If it is too tight then use a standard nylon clevise threaded on to your brass coupler.

Cheers,

Good plan...   Just be sure to check the set screw periodicly to ensure that it is secure.

I have these clevises which are designed for cable hookups. They would be perfect for the throttle. Just attach like any other clevis, slide the cable in, and tighten the set screw.

wzak, I can send you one when I return your completed wheel pants if you like, just let me know.

Received my Magnum today. Will start working on installing the engine later today. wzak, let me know where you are at in the build so I can try to catch up.

Wanted to make it a remote needle valve but I can not loosen the carb nut without damaging so I will leave it as standard. Not that important.

I have the engine mounted and the throttle tube installed that’s about it, should get my order tomorrow then we can get back to building. (nice engine!)

You might try applying some heat to the carb housing either by a heat gun or putting it in your oven at 300 degree's for about 10 minutes.  Wear some gloves and see if you loosen the nut....

Cheers,

Don’t remember where I found them.

While I try to find out check these cable attach fittings out. They add a threaded fitting to a cable.

You want to use the EZ connector on the throttle servo only.  Use Z bends on the rest of the servo's, or the Faslinks that came with the kit.

If an EZ connector fails on the throttle, you can fly around till it runs out of fuel.  If an EZ connector fails on a control surface you loose control.

We received contradicting advice on this subject here http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8806518/tm.htm and it will continue for the life of RC, half saying its ok to use them they never had a problem with them for the many years they have been flying, the other half saying they are unsafe and they don't trust them. There are endless opinions on this so please let's not get into it again with this thread. As always we appreciate all advice given to us, we just don't want to open this subject up again.

I received the package from you today wzak. Unfortunately the wheel pants you tried to cut are no good. Don't fret, no big deal. I will begin working on the nosegear pant tomorrow. All the other pants are completed.

When I send them back to you do you want me to send you the cable clevis shown in post #308? Let me know.

This is the plan, ZAP thread lock on all hardware and steel retainers on all EZ connectors.

Cable with brass solder coupler and ball link on throttle

Cable with EZ connector on nose gear

Rudder, elevator and ailerons steel rod with clevis

EZ connectors on all servos

Dubro (and others, I'm sure) makes a ball socket that is ideal for throttle use.  It allows  you to use a throttle linkage that may note exactly line up with the throttle arm on the carb.

Are you using ZAP threadlocker http://www.supergluecorp.com/zap/zap-thread-locker or ZAP CA? There is a difference. Use threadlocker as threadlocker and CA as glue. Don't mix the functions.

DO NOT use the Red threadlock. The Red formula threadlock is permenant and you will not be able to get the components apart once it sets and dries. You need to use the Blue threadlock formula.

Yes one set is ok. And the filler is fine, just need to add water real dry. Thank you.

Well, I was getting ready to install the motor and start working on the cowl BUT . . . all I have on hand is a 2 1/4" spinner and the kit calls for a 2 1/2". Everything fits fine with room to spare, I wrote a thread in beginners to ask if that 1/4" is a significant difference. Waiting for a response from there before I go further.

wzak, get your order yet? Did you order the U-shape landing gear straps for the pants?
