As you can see in the attached photo we will cut out a 1/2" diameter circle in rib 1 directly behind the landing gear doublers of ribs 2 & 3 for the servo wire tubes. Use rib 2 or 3 as a template as to where to mark the circle.

We will also use the bay after the landing gear (after rib 3) for the servo location. The servos will be in the same location as it was in the center of the wing (pressed up against the spar) so we will need to glue servo rails between ribs 3 & 4.

Last photo is of the ribs 2 & 3 epoxied together with the landing gear doublers.

P.S: Before cutting out the circle mentioned above in rib 1, be sure to apply CA glue around the servo cutout or it will fall out during this step.

Did you cut the circle directly behind the landing gear doublers to match with ribs 2 & 3? Did you CA the servo cutout in rib 1 so it won’t fall out?

Here are my ribs 2 & 3 with the rear notches cut out for tricycle gear, and the circles cut out in ribs 1 for servo wire tubes.

How far in the wing build are you so I can catch up?

Did everything just like you so far, I have the bottom spar pined to the building board and ribs sitting on it nothing glued. Have the TE and LE sanded and ready to install going to need some photos from you because I’m not sure how to proceed.

Test fitting ribs 2 & 3. You must be extremely careful that you are building the wing panel UPSIDE DOWN, meaning the landing gear notches are facing up. Also, the landing gear doublers must be facing out.

Leading edge and trailing edge completed. You must really take your time to be sure they are lined up perfectly and kept straight the entire length of the wing panel.

photo 1: making sure the ribs are lined up straight with rib zigs
photo 2, 3 & 4: Trailing edge MUST be flush on both top and bottom of all ribs and kept straight the entire length. PIN IN PLACE DO NOT GLUE.
photo 5, 6 & 7: Leading edge MUST be centered top and bottom on each rib so that the sheeting can be glued in place later. MUST be a gap top and bottom of the L.E for the sheeting to fit. PIN IN PLACE DO NOT GLUE.

Thin CA must be used for this step so that the gluing can be done quickly before the ribs can shift.
1) First glue TE to rib 2 and the last rib 4 (at the wing tip) with thin CA when lined up as stated above. Inspect all the remaining ribs one at a time for proper alignment, glue each with thin CA after you inspect for alignment.
2) Now glue LE to rib 2 and the last rib 4 (at the wing tip) with thin CA when lined up as stated above. Inspect all the remaining ribs one at a time for proper alignment, glue each with thin CA after you inspect for alignment.

I am ending here until I hear from you, wzak29. Next step is to glue the ribs to the spar.

The LE and TE has a long and a short end from the last rib does the long end go towards the root or the tip?
in the manual it looks like the long end goes at the tip? it looks like your short end is at the tip?
look at page 12 DD1

According to the picture on page 9 underneath step 6 it looks like the long ends are at the root end (center of wing) but on page 9 above step 11 it shows the short ends at the root end. Doesn't really matter because I can just glue a scrap piece of L.E to the tip end. Manual is not that clear on this part.

Do it as instructed on the plans. Extend the L.E past the tip, with the long end at the tip end. Does not matter with the T.E as it gets trimmed away anyways.

photo: my L.E corrected, thank you wzak29 for paying attention

#4 and #5 top spar installed #3 and #5 showes rib #1 with hole for servo wire tube

Looking good wzak29. I will be installing the tube next and the servo rails, and when it comes to the sheeting I will be using Elmer's Glue-All. When you install the tube be sure to sand it first to remove as much of the wax coating as you can. And be sure not to glue in rib 1 to anything until instructed to do so.

Photo 1, 2: Test fitting forward and aft 1/8” ply wing dowel supports. DO NOT GLUE YET.

Photo 3: Drawing a line through the two index marks on the 1/8” ply rib angle gauge.

Photo 4: Checking the angle of rib 1.

Photo 5: When satisfied with the rib 1 angle glue the rib, dowel supports and spar with thin CA.

Photo 6, 7: L.E, T.E and spars being trimmed flush with W1.

Photo 8: L.E, T.E and spars flush with W1.

Photo 9: L.E left long at tip end.

Photo 1: Aileron servo rails glued in place.

Photo 2: Plenty of Elmer’s Glue-All underneath servo rails.

Photo 3,4 & 5: Cardboard tube cut to 7 ¾” length and glued through ribs 1, 2 & 3 for servo wires. Sand the tube lightly to remove some of the wax for better gluing and keep flush with rib 1.

Photo 6, 7 & 8: Servo placement with servo tube tested.

Just a note: The servo rails are not completed yet. I will be filling in the open space with scrap balsa so that only the servo hole will remain. But I need to have the tube visible to pass the wire through.

Came across something that wasn't anticipated. With us building the tricycle gear, and with the landing gear blocks needing to be where they are (see photos) we are going to need to sheet around the landing gear so I will need to pick up another 3/32" sheet.

Another concern is that the landing gear is so close to the aileron servo.  You might want to think about moving the servo's out one more bay.

Too late for me, but am curious to know what the concern would be for the servo being close to the landing gear.

Im not completely positive, but jrcaster may be thinking of servo interference from the metal gear....? not sure I wouldnt worry about it personaly, he may also be considering the possiblity of ripingthe gear out and also then ripping out the ail. servo?

Angle rib 1 glue the rib, dowel supports and spar with ca and wood glue.

Built the servo mount like shd3920 but I also added doublers for servo mounting screws #1, needed to cut the shear web to fit it in with the doublers #2. #3 and #4 shear web installed and glued I glued all the webs with G.P Pro wood glue. I had a little warp in the wing so I pined in down before gluing the remaining shear webs hopes this will straighten the wing #4 and #5.

In photos 5 & 6 the last two tip rib 4s don't look straight. Are they alright? I hope they are straighter than they look.

I see what you mean I checked the ribs they are straight it’s just a bad photo. Photo #1 is the TE sheeting had to use many T-pins because this GP Pro wood glue will warp large or long pieces of wood. Photo #2 sheeting of LE used a bead of wood glue on the ribs used ca on the LE and spar

Forgot to cut a slot in rib #1 for the wing joiner will cut it after glue dries, photo #2.
