Ya plug them into a RX and turn them on along with a TX just like you were going to fly. Be sure to plug into correct channel. Any servo should be installed in this manner. How else do you know how you are setting it up? If you don't the first time you turn on the plane the servo could run to some strange place and actually cause damage. Could also use a servo controller but just using your radio saves buying something extra.

That is how I set up my servos but I leave the arms on, then remove and relocate the arm if necessary.

Just like he said, plug all the servos into the receiver in channels 1-4 and hook up the battery, turn on the radio, center all your trims on the sticks and turn on the receiver, while they are sitting in neutral (throttle stick middle) remove the horns and place them centered, power it down and your done. If you can't get the servo arm 90 degrees to the servo housing, use your subtrim to fine tune center, if you go past 7 steps, your usually off a spline, rotate the horn 1 spline and recenter the servo. Go ahead and mount the servos using the most servo travel on the servo end, this will improve resolution of the inputs from the sticks, so keep the connection of the control rod as close as you can to the center of the servo horn and as far out as you can on the control surface horn, try to use all the servo throw it has to offer and still achieve the recommended travel on the surfaces without binding on the servo housing.

I am sending out your wheel pants today, sorry couldn't do it yesterday heavy rain. You sure you don't want the canopy glue and save a little cash?

I have the box ready to go, minus the glue, so you should receive in a few days.

Its simple. Unscrew the scre that holds the servo arm on, remove the servo arm...Plug your servo in to your reciever, with your Transmitter trims at neutral(right in the center). You will be able to see the servo arm gear move, once it stops it is at neutral... Re-install your servo arm, now you have equal trim in both directions....otherwise when you plug your sevo in you will have a ail, rudder, or elevator that is deflected in one way or another.....

Future reference...   It's probably not a good idea to use plastic clevices on the servo side of the linkage as in many cases it will bind and put a load on the servo.  The increase load will cause the flight battery pack to deplete its charge faster.  There are several other beter solutions available.  Typially I like to use ball ends on my servo arms as they minimize the possibility of binding.

Cheers,

You can use ball links on ailerons? How about on elevator and rudder?

I would like to use EZ connectors on the ailerons too, but I thought we were told that EZ connectors were not good for ailerons.

Depending on the installation I might use a clevis at the aileron horn and either a L-Bend or EZ-Connector at the servo arm for up to 60 size IF they are not high speed planes. If there is going to be a lot of load on the connection I'll upgrade the hardware completely. Basically, if 2-56 linkage is OK, so is an EZ-Connector IMO. I reserve the right to make exceptions.

Some say that EZ connectors fail, I've never had one fail on me, the ez connectors come in standard or heavy duty, ball links are sutable for almost any surface or control, heck we use 1/4" ball links on guide vane actuators on all 1500 ton chillers, the stepper motors put out around 500 ftlbs of linear power. So with that said, I don't think the 1/16" ball and socket are going to fail. I use them on throttle connections where it might not be a straight shot to the arm, or on pull/pull setups sometimes, ez connectors are good for insid the fuslage for quick adjustments, but nothing really beats a good old L-bend with a plastic keeper, simple stupid and does a great job.

How about the Kavan Threaded-Pushrod Connector
http://www.kavanrc.com/IndexText/3060E.html

I have a bunch of these laying around and they need a home somewhere. How about using these on all the servos including ailerons? Works like an EZ connector but with a more secure hold of a threaded rod and screws onto the servo arm instead of the unpredictable hold of a nylon or metal clip.

I've used EZ links on the servo side of the linkage on a lot of my airplanes without failure.  I just make it a habit to check them during preflight.  On my larger airplanes (larger the a .60 size) I do not take a chance and use ball-links like these: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXK093&P=7.  I'll usually solder on a threaded coupler on the end and install the ball-link.  On my monster sized airplane (BTE Super Flying-King) I do not take any chances and use ball-links similar to this:  http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFPW8&P=7.   When it comes to tieing the linkage to the control surface I'll use either a clevice (plastic on models smaller then a .40 size engine or slow flier,  or use metal on everything larger) or if alignment is an issue to provide smooth movement I'll use a ball-link appropriately sized.

Cheers,

They are nice, but remember that they are metric and not SAE threads.

If you use those, buy loctite and put it on the threads, if you don't it will vibrate free over time. Use 2 pliers and tighten them securely.

Can not get until around the 3rd of July.
Instead of the Coverite fabric I was planning on using I am going to order two rolls of white Ultracote for the fuselage, stab, elevator, fin, rudder and top of wing. I am also ordering one roll of red/white 1" square Ultracote for the bottom of the wing and perhaps some graphics.

Might be able to get sooner if I juggle some money around. When are you getting yours?
Are the wheel pants working out for you?

Fuel filler dot completed and temporarily installed. I hope there is no chance in the engine vibrations pushing out the fuel dot.

It won't push out from engine vibration. And even if it does it won't hurt anything by doing so. Just have the fill line flopping around until you land. No big deal.
