I was contacted by Kevin of hobbymate from China to try out a pair of the 3800kv brushless motors.    first impressions are good.  they look fantastic.  hope they performs as good as they look.
http://www.hobbymate.com.cn/EN/2835-H.html

I just received it today.  I have 2 on hand.   first impressions are good.  65g weight.  max amp is 45a  which is probably around 450 watts.   here's the spec.

KV: 3800 rpm/V
Shaft diameter: Ø3.17mm
Weight: 65g
Working efficiency:>90%
Max current: 45A
Cell count: 3S
Class of helicopter: 450

i'm going to stick on one of my 450's and see how well they perform and report.

After testing one of them I'll give it to one of you gents to try it out.  the other i'm keeping for myself.

yes i sure did grawl.... i remembered about it while browsing through dealxtreme.

now i have all the electronics to go for a 450 size heli.   xheli now has the exi450 basic version for 40 bucks!  and it might come with usable blades this time.    its amazing how a little competition from HC has forced xheli to react.  in the end we win!!

I havnt even flown my brand new trex500esp yet. still waiting for the batteries  but then again i ordered them on Friday and tracking shows its left their facility that day for transit   should be monday or tuesday for her maiden voyage.

i got 2x 2200mah 25c Flightmax 3 cell for $56 bucks shipped!   i'm going to run them in a series as a 6S pack.  I can get a flightmax 2650mah 25c 6S for $75 bucks.  this place is not HC but actually in the U.S.  pm me if you want the link for the lipos.

grawl pm me for the brushless motor... no need to hang on to two when i can share my loot.  try it and let us know what you think.  you're going to need at least a 45a esc to be safe. 50a esc would be optiumal.

Oh and I forgot to ask, wht pinion are you using?

I beleive I am currently using (have) a 13T with my 3500k motor.

the box comes with connecters for both the motor and esc. it also comes with a 12T or 13T pinion.   its going to be ballistic.  it does not come with any motor mount screws.

Awsome Noob,
Being that this is a 3800kv, I think I will start with the 12T and if its not enough, move to the 13T.

I have plenty of screws for bolting it down.

Thanks again!

Just wanted to report my observation thus far with the hobbymate motor.    after 20+ packs on the hobbymate....I give it full thumbs up.   lots of power.  Make sure you run a 25c rating on this baby.  my batteries are coming down warm.  I will be doing a video soon of how much power this motor has.   i cant believe its only $15 dollars shipped from dealextreme.

for all who is interested ...this awesome motor can be found here:   http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=170342843154

going to the park now with my gazaur poseidon480 using this motor on 12T on a 2200mah 30C 3S Kong Power.   headspeed is really up there.  according to the dark horse headspeed calculator on a full charge headspeed is around 3447rpm.    better use a carbon blade on this boys and girls.     I will do a video.

alrighty.  here's the vid of hobbymate's brushless motor.     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6Mz9KHg9kQ&feature=channel_page

I think's its my best flight with the gazaur poseidon ever.    oh..sorry about the bad camera angles in the beginning. its gets better towards the end.

I wasonly able to get 6 batteries out of this motor before I had a brain fart andlost orientation and wound up trashing the entire heli.  The reason for trashing the heli has a lot todo with the superb amount of power this little motor produces…

The Motor went into an EXI 450 with a metal head and tail, CF mainblades and plastic tail blades.  I have switchedthe main gear to an Align 450 gear and I am using 2100 mah 20c batteries andMystery 40A SBEC with a max current of 60A. I am also using JR servos and a G401B gyro.  The motor that is being replaced is a Red colored3500kv motor rated at 350w (if you search around you will find this motor) witha 13T pinion.

Here is my initial reaction and observations to what I consider real worldtesting (no scopes or tacks, just good old observations).

My initial reaction of the motor coming right out of the box, was very pleasing. Actually I was very impressed with the packaging.  The motor came in avery nice foam holder inside of the box.  Supplied items were the motor, bulletconnectors, 12T pinion and shrink tubing for the wires.  The set screw wasnot in the pinion so make sure you are careful opening the baggy and don’t loseit.

When it came time to solder the connections fort eh battery leads as well asthe bullet connectors, the wires came pre tinned which was also nice to see.

Installing the motor in the heli was a bit more difficult as though the Blackand chrome look very nice, the black makes it harder to see and ultimately lineup the screws of the motor and the mounting plate of a 450 class heli (StandardEXI 450).  I would also like to note thatthe motor comes with two different bolt patterns and each of those has its ownbolt size.  I would be guessing at the actual thread size and soI will leave that alone.  Out of my assortment of stuff, I did have mountingscrews for both sizes and so it made it a mute point.  It would be nice ifthe motor came with bolts that fit at most of the 450 size heli’s, as this iswhat the motor is supposed to be used for and it would only cost a few cents toadd to the package.

Once installed and the gear mesh was checked, I took it outside and ran itup in my Normal flight mode which is about 65% throttle at hover.  First impression was a very smooth spool upand it was much quieter than the motor it replaced. After hovering for a fewminutes, I flew a few circuits and at that point I was comfortable to goto Flight mode 1.

(I have3 flight modes programmed –Norm flight mode is lower power and a bit more pitchyielding lower rotor speed for generally longer flights - flight mode 1 and 2are the same throttle and pitch settings when the TX stick is above mid stickbut differ on the lower end – Flight mode 1 returns power to 0% at low stickand flight mode 2 increases to 100% at low stick for 3D).

Flight mode1 is where I initially noticed the increased power, you could hear it!  I saw absolutely no decrease in rpm of therotor blades no matter what I did.  Onething I did notice was that the increase in torque this motor provided wouldover power the tail and in order to compensate, I will have to move the balllink farther out on the tail servo arm (right now the ball is about half way betweenthe inner most hole on the arm and the servo arm mounting screw).  The increased torque is due to the increase inwattage up to 450 and the lower 12T pinion.

After afew minutes I was comfortable moving to Flight mode 2 and pushing it prettyhard.  I cannot go inverted but I cangive it a pretty good thrashing as far as g-forces go.  And like I said above, there was nothing Icould do that would slow this thing down.

After eachflight I checked the temperatures of the Batteries, ESC, and motor.  The motor was cool, the ESC was luke warm andthe battery was just a bit warmer than the ESC.

Lastly, I would like to note, my flight time increased about 1min and I suspect this is due to going from a 13T to a 12T pinion relievingsome of the stein on the motor and esc.

Only thing that has not been verified is the longevity of themotor and how well it will last.  Running40k plus RPM is hard on shafts and bearings so time will tell.

For the $15 from DX, I would recommend this motor to anybodyand everybody at this point.  I will getsome more flight time on the motor and update if anything changes.

i originally was only going to test this motor on my poseidon.  I was running on a 4S setup with the JGF 500TH motor.   with this new setup the poseidon flys much more agile because of the weight loss...but the power is still there.   it does climb outs amazing fast.    it has about 25 flights on it so far and running very strong.   i will run as many packs as i can on it and keep a log.

just wanted to update on this motor.  its getting close to 100+ flights on it and is still performing like new.  very impressed.

I may have a new gyro to test from hobbymate.  I'll do a complete review when it arrives.

I have 4 of the "Hobbymate 2835 3800kv motors". I have had some bad crashes and most of my crashes are in dirt. Sooooooo, I blew out a few bearings and broke a couple motor shafts. OUCH!

I have fixed them both (the two wrecked ones) and installed sealed bearings in all of them. I built my own shaft for the motors by purchasing stainless steel 1/8 inch (3.17mm) stock rod and cutting it to specs with a dremel. Broke in the bearings since they are a bit tight with the grease packed and sealed at factory. They are performing well, and I couldn't be more pleased.

Note on the shaft. I did not put back the fixing clip, nor cut a groove for one (weak point of break in first place). I did put just the smallest amount of Blue loctite on the bearing shaft holes. It holds well, and I was able to remove the bearings from the shaft later (test run). Cutting flats on the shaft was a snap too.

Rod stock was very cheap fix. A foot of it cost less than a buck. The bearings (green sealed) were close to $9 for the two.

Parts for upgraded Hobbymate 2835H 3800kv motor: 1- "R2-5-2rs Bearing"
1- "R144-zz" Bearing"
1- "49.5mm stainless steel rod" from rod stock for shaft.

Love the performance of this motor with a 12t pinion!!!! 11t tames it down a bit if you feel a need.

Hope this helps anyone with the same problem of broken shaft or worn bearing.

My replies to your request seem a bit confusing I think.  Here is a breakdown of the various bearings.  I realize you didn't want all of them but maybe you will at some point need to refer to them?   The 3800kv Motor is a fairly powerful motor that draws the amps.  I use 40amp with seperate bec on them and have no problems.

Anyway, here is the breakdown on bearings in 450V2 heli and the 3800kv.
