JWM 2009 ISRAELThe 8th Jet World Masters 18th – 25th June 2009Event Schedule UpdateWe are pleased to publish this new Final Dates of The Official Competition:
After receiving comments from the IJMC Reps we gathered that most of the teams will prefer to compete in a lower temperature period, and they have no objection to have it in June 2009.We are apologizing for any inconvenience, but this is why we are changing the date 14 months before the Event.Events during the competition such as : Nations Night , IJMC Annual meeting , etcWill be scheduled & published closer to the beginning to the Jet Masters. We Hope to see you all in Israel – prepare your Models !!!!!
Best Regards Avi Ambar Head of Organization team

                                                                          2009 JWM
This is the final call for anyone interested in participating in the Event should immediately contact me for arrangements. We have 2 pilots that want to participate but do not have a plane that will make the 20kilo weight limit. So if you have a plane that would make weight and want to be the pilot that would be great. If you have a plane that you would like to enter but do not want to be the pilot also please contact me ASAP?

There have been several comments from prospects that they will just wait until the event is in the States to compete. Well OK but if you have not participated in a JWM you will be at a major disadvantage to just make the US Team and Even more so to be competitive with the rest of the World ! ! !I would be willing to bet and give odds that El AL; Israeli National Airline is the safest airlines in the world right now.Anyway please let me know if anyone has an interest?
Thanks, Roger   jetadic@aol.com

Roger, is the event in Israel still happening? The Israeli website is not updated and the event is only a week away.

Mathew I certainly assume so as I have not been notiifed of any change.
The Israel Organizers are the only ones that could make a change in the outstanding schedule.
Should there be any change I will make an immediate post.

Anyone heard anything? ? ? ? ? ? Zero info all round.  I would guess some of the competitors will be  arriving this weekend for early practice for next week.

How many acutal competitiors are going from each country?  The official site says 51, but given USA, UK and a few others are sending less than origianly planed, this number must be a lot less than 51.

After the last bad masters, is this the end of the event?  I hope not as Israel should be good.  Hey "ambaron" any updates?  We nned to hear something about what is going on.  Will the JWM website have updates thoughout the event?

Hello All

It does not matter how many pilots arrive to the 2009 Jet World Masters. The important issue is to have the best Event.

It is rather surprising that the US do not have even  one Pilot in this Event . ( we can also ask : is this the end of RC Jets in the US…….?)

Each pilot has his own reason why not to come , some objective and some are…."More Objective"…..

We Will welcome any pilots that would like to join the Event , even in the last Minute.

Attached are some pictures from the competition site :

I suggest that all of you will take the next Flight to Tel Aviv , Visit the Event site , Fall in love I the country and people , and go back happy.

So…..Welcome to Israel !!!

ambaron,

One only has to look at the recent threads on the Kentucky Jets week coming up in 3 weeks or so, the Liberty Jets week in August, or any one of the many, many threads about the activities of those wacky jet guys out on the left coast to know that jet flying is alive and well in the US.

I think that the non-attendence at this event by US participants says nothing about the level of jet activity in the US and nothing about the site, the host country, or any kind of political issues. Its simply a matter of the expense (in a down economy, at least here) and time it takes to get there, the (extreme) hassel of shipping a jet out there and back, and the desire of a lot of jet guys to not miss any local events that are scheduled in the same time period.

I would very much like to have seen a US team at the event, but I completely understand why no one was able to stand up and go.

Bob

As the USA are not compeating in 2009, does this not mean they can not bid for the next masters in 2011?

Yes, I share the same opinion.
The JWM is getting abandoned at the benefit of local events.
After the huge deception of the previous JWM in Ireland, I was expecting some kind of creative reaction from the committee to make the event attractive once again.
Well the least that one could say is that they did not attract much.

The political side of the IJMC decision shall not be eluded. Can the "International" organization afford to discard all the Arabic nations ?
Is it wise to set an international event in a country at war ?

This issue might very well be the last one.

Well I would say that actually the USA is the last chance of the JWM.
If the the IJMC can make it through the 2009 issue, then the 2011 one will have to be exceptional.
Only the USA can supply that many jet enthusiasts needed. Only the USA can attract people universally from all around the world to a truly exceptional site.

Several months ago I offered my assistance as a helper and even a back up pilot.  No one ever got back to me so I figured they were not interested.  Now it is too late.  The USA team is not organized.

I lost interest when the new rules were established.  What is a scale contest without a builder-of-the-model class???  Whats the point?

We can only hopes the rules "changed" to the next JWM.

(We are a few jet "builder"/pilots from Sweden who wants to compete in the USA  2011 )

With you 100% Dustin, that's the main reason Ian and I aren't there and we flew in the open class! When we first entered in1997, it was a 'team' class with builder and pilot, that was also changed somewhere along the way.

As the USA are not competing in 2009, does this not mean they can not bid for the next masters in 2011?

The site of the JWM is voted upon at the event by the participaters.  According to the last rule which were issued in 2007 to this regard, Isreal made a motion at the meeting, which was seconded and voted upon,  which prevents anyone except a country who made an official presentation at the meeting in January preceding the event in the summer from being considered for the right to host the JWM. At that meeting only Cyprus and Isreal made bids, and then when Cyprus withdrew, Isreal was by default the next in line, based upon the ruling.
I do know that the US made a bid for the right to host the WJM in 2011, so therefore they MUST be considered.  I do not know if anyone else had submitted a proposal at that meeting, but if they did the vote will be between them.
If the IJMC decides to change the rules, based upon the attendence record of the JWM in Isreal, they are playing a dangerous game that would in effect challenge their integrity and mission.
There is certainly more to be said, which should not be said in a public forum.

I am anxious to see how the logistics will be handled to get all of those big planes to the site. I have given up flying to events with planes (I used to go to 2-3 events a year by plane with my models) but I have long given up.

Maybe this 2011 JWM in Ohio will break the code on how to get the models moved by air.

EDIT: Sorry I thought the decision had already been made about Ohio 2011

It is never official, as far as I have been told, until the vote takes place during the JWM.
Getting there is defintely half the battle.  For the US Team in the past it meant some very large container.  I know Rod Snyder and Sung had two of the best looking crates you will ever find.  But shipping something of that size requires lots of planning and it costs money.  You also needed to pack or plan for your air compressor, any tools you needed to repair or assemble, your documentation, and any other accessories you might need.  Fire extinquishers and fuel are usally provided on site since those things are frowned upon to be shipped.
I know logistically those who have done this in the past certainly have the advantage.  When you look at teams such as Australia and China, those guys really knew how to pack everything they needed in order to compete.  It is not as simple as throwing your plane in a box and meeting up with it at the field.
I am gonna miss seing some of the guys this year, it is always fun to meet up with them, and I have made some good friends in Hungary and North Ireland.  However, family matters and a demanding job prevented me from taking the two weeks this year to make the trek.
