Hi Mike,

Need your advise. I bought my HiTec Flash 4 about 3 months ago and I have had repeated issues with my receiver battery pack. At first I was getting good life from the pack (many flights before recharge). Then I noticed it dropping voltage to quickly so I cycled the pack on my Hobbico AccuCycle Plus system, 3 times, on the slow rate charge/discharge setting. Then the battery pack seemed fine again for a while. Now, it seems like I can get only one or two flights before needing recharged again. Is there something wrong with the pack? Everyone at the field says they would not fly with a battery pack that only lasted one flight. I tend to agree, especially when I have seen it go 6-7 flights before needing a charge. We are talking 3-4 weeks in between cycling and only about 20-25 flights later. The guys seem to think that it should not need cycling that often. They ussually cycle theirs 2 times per year. Do you feel this is a defective pack? Should I send it in?

It may be a bad cell. If you send it in we can check it out.

Mike.

Mike,

I keep getting just 1 or 2 flights on my pack and then its at about 4.8 volts under 250 maH load. My Hobbico Accuclyle shows 600 maH after 2 cycles though ... do you think the pack is bad? When I first got it it showed about 620 maH of capacity, now its at 600 maH. This is what its rated for.
I am confused. What voltage is safe to fly?

If it cycles at 600mah then the pack is good. At 4.8V you still have plenty of juice left. The battery will not full die until about 4V.

what would you say is a safe flying voltage?

anything above 4.6v? I know the knee of the nicd curve is real steep.

That would be on the safe side. You could go slightly lower, especially if you are measuring it with a 250mah load.
