I have a couple of questions regarding which gas engines to use with the OMP 80 inch Edge ARF.  My first question is will the airplane still 3D well with the extra weight of a gas engine?  Also, the OMP site recommends using beam mounted engines in the range of 30cc to 40 cc along with suggesting an RC Showcase 180 engine as a good engine. I went to the RC Showcase web site and did not see the engine listed. In general, most gas engines are going to four post mounts. Can you use a 4 post mount engine and what mods to you have to do? Also, are there any other mods you have to do to this plane when switching to gas engines other than the fuel lines in the tank?  Are there any other good recommended gas engines for this plane either beam or four post mounted?

OS 160FX with a macs one piece muffler or header and BudLight can is a good setup. Gassers with beam mounts that also have a good HP/weight ratio are rare indeed.

I have a 40cc 80 inch profile that was built by Bill Hemple ( so I have been told)
Has a MVVS 40cc gas motor with a canister muffler...
EVERTHING HEAVY DUTY, 8 servos, on the heavy side at 18 lbs...
Found that I could get 20 to21 lbs of thrust with a Xoar 21x8
Will hover with a slow pullout...
Lightned by 6 oz by installing ONE A123 battery for everthing...
MVVS was purchased by Eveloution , I think

That's definately an OMP 80" Edge.  Looks to be a kit built version for sure.  Don't know of an MVVS 40cc gas.  The MVVS 2.15 which is equavalent to 35cc was very popular on the 80" Edge and reported to be a powerhouse.

YES, I think you are right: Portland Cement instead of foam: Makes it heavy duty...
The old TeatherRite gears just flex and holds it fine...
Not a good 3der but flys very nice... attracts alot of attention...
needless to say

It might just be me but, if you are going to be putting a three and a half pound engine on the front you might as well go with a DA50 or DL50.  They weigh about the same as an Evo 35.  And, power would be absolutely sick!

The plane is a profile so it requires a beam mouned motor...
I have a Burelli 46 that would work if the power issue starts to bug me....

That's been done several times and requires modifying the nose and engine mount.  It has been successful though!

I really like that MVVS 40!  Probably the same motor as the EVO 40GT Horizon is selling.  How could one get the MVVS 40 and how much would it be?  Looks like a perfect engine for the giant profiles.

Hi Mike,

I think EVO purchased MVVS and the 40 and 40MVVS are the same

Pe Reivers is the MVVS dealer I located in the Netherlands at:

http://mvvs.nl/

Hope the above link works for you...

Mine may be a 35cc, can not tell

IT IS THE SMOOTHEST RUNNING GAS ENGINE I HAVE EVER SEEN   NO VIBRATION

Walt...

I'm actually itching to do an E-conversion on one.  The mounting hardware would be the same as if I was mounting a DA.  I'm also considering yanking out the DA in my Hybrid and doing an E-conversion on that as well since motors and batteries seem to be getting cheaper.
