Pee Wee .020 free flight
I have been flying RC for 20+ years but would love to dabble in some cox powered free flight for something different. Can anyone make a .020 powered model suggestion? I'm not a big Guillows fan and would rather build from some plans or a kit.
Thanks!

One of the best sport Free Flight designs is Joe Wagners Dakota bipe. It will fly on an 020. Goes up and down with no wind in a football sized field. The old Midwest Sniffer is also a great candidate for some sport FF with an 020. When you get to the 049 size there are almost limitless choices from plans.

I have to say ditto on the Dakota Bipe and there is a kit available (although for the life of me I cannot remember who kits it right this moment...). They are great little flyers that will FF in a limited area and are very sturdy.

Thanks for the ideas fellas! Don't get me wrong my son and I are die hard RC guys(and some control line) but we are just wanting the expand our modeling resume a bit. I haveowned some kind of Cox engine since I was 5 years old but never a Pee Wee, just recently aquired one.We are getting 1 -1 1/2 min. flights with a rubber poweredPeck Polomers Parrie Bird and would love to build something with my new Pee Wee.Love the Twin Lizzie by the way!

There's a mess of stuff at www.campbellscustomkits.com. I was looking specifically for the Easy Bee though, which came to mind as a quick builder and good performer. All sheet, Jedelsky wing, typical pylon FF layout with optional gear. Didn't see it listed, but might have missed it.

I am glad you like the the Twin Lizzie as it is a real nice one for sure but since you asked I will have to give a second nod to rainedave's suggestion for the Half Pint.
Just my two cents, Robert

RE: Pee Wee .020 free flight
All good suggestions so far, but let me add one more...
R/N Models made a number of scale model kits, as well as a number of scaled down Old TImers for .020 power.
R/N Models is no longer around but they were pretty common andtheir kits turn up quite regularly on the used market.
(Shameless plug: I've got a few in my "will likely never build"stackof kits that I'd be willing to sell.)
BTW, if you are looking for Twin Lizzie plans, they are here:

Penn Valley Hobby http://www.pennvalleyhobbycenter.com/ took over kit production from RN a few years ago. To my knowledge, they are all printwood kits. Very good and complete kits. If you are ever looking for an easy to build, great flying sport rubber job, try the 'Island Flyer' from them. The Half Pint is available from BMJR if interested.

RE: Pee Wee .020 free flight
Good to see that Penn Valley Hobbies is reproducing the R/N kits. I took a look, and they have several of them listed but not all that R/N originally pruduced.
Another line I see that they are reproducing is the Micro Models kits. I believe that all 8 of those listed are Old Timers and are for .020 engines. Like the R/N models, they are also printwood. This is no big deal as far as building time though, as this is mainly wing ribs and a few bulkheads. Sure beats die-crunching!

Milton,
Are you bringing your planes and yourself to SMALL this year? Don't make me come get you !! Going to be more wet engines this year. I have a 6' span wing with one of your TD's on it. You'll want to fly it.

That reminds me - one of my old mags has a Pee Wee powered Curtis Wright pusher, which is just about the epitome of cute to me.

Do you have the original magazine article, and if so, does it mentionwhat engine the full size Talorcub had?
Perhaps it wasa Szekely? There was also a 3 cylinder radial Lenape Papoosethat was used inthe laterPiper Cub.Very fewwere made though.

RE: Pee Wee .020 free flight
The PeeWee Pal would be a lot of fun. As would any of theLaumer designs.
While the Curtiss Jr IS the epitome of "cute" I would not suggest it for free flight sport flying. The wing struts form a rather delicate and complex cage that will be too much of a bother to build accurately and will be damage prone.
Just don't underestimate the power of the PeeWee. For contest type flying it'll easily pull 30 inch span models of around 5 oz uphill in a very contest like manner. I've flown a 34 inch span ROmodel with a PeeWee and even at around 10 oz it still had a spirited climb. With some of the Laumer designs that should come in atwell under10 ozif you want to hold down the altitude gain. You'll likely find yourself using a bigger than normal prop or turning the regular one around backwards.
As for the PeeWee Pal I would not let that one go without a DTfuse or timer on board and running.
The Dakota would be best if you want something to fly in smaller areas that thermals won't affect. The Dak has the glide of a greased manhole cover.... .

RE: Pee Wee .020 free flight
Dave Fritzke's plan page now has the Ace Guppy plan. With the built up wing shown on the plan instead of the Ace tapered foam wing it would make a good .020 FF model. It's a sailplane like model with a Pee Wee on a power pylon.
