for those who are not car buffs

the Lotus Elite  (stock photo) was a Chapman design weighing 1100 lbs

My old  racing pal from 1960  -in

Salt Lake City had one -with a  low tune engine -still very  impressive

I had an Austin Healey  A100   Ibuilt which weighed  2100lbs  -but my engine was a  highly modified  265 Chev v8

very quick but very foul handling. even tho I had the  weight almost  50/50. It swapped ends easily.

MHM, with respect to nailing the CG on the first try......go ahead and build your wing, build the fuselage, too.......get it rigged as completely as possible with all onboard equipment, payload, etc. and THEN you are ready to commit to the wing's location. If you are clever enough, your design will allow for a certain amount of leeway, if not.....consider the first fuselage as a down and dirty "mock-up".
Guys who are too much in love with the keyboard never get anything done. Get your hands dirty, first.

Bdel, here is the rule:  A nose-heavy airplane can be retrimmed, but you may not be able to repair a tail-heavy airplane.
