Hi Mike. I have a Futaba 9z whose life I wouldn't mind extending for awhile with 2.4.  It looks like I will eventually be getting an Aurora 9 when they come out. Out of interest, would I be able to use the Spectra 2.4GHz module in the 9Z? The 9C? With the aporopriate Optima receiver, of course.

Thanks

We've tested it and other are using it in the 9C. I don't have a 9Z to test it with but if they use a similar module then it should work.

Note: In the past many people used the Hitec Spectra synthesized module in Futaba radios, and while it worked, the combo was not FCC type accepted so technically it was illegal. Hitec Spectra 2.4 system is self contained and does not use any of the radios RF section so it is legal to use in any radio that it fits.

Mike.

Okay, so it does work with the 9C then (That's what I have).

Where can I find the technical information on this (like the manual?).

I looked on the Hitec site but was unable to find any specific Futaba compatibility information. My understanding is that things are supposed to be available sometime this month?

No specific instructions relating to any one type of transmitter as the two listed Manuals cover various instalations and uses. Web search will evidence posts already submitted on various forums by several satisfied Futaba owners describing their various transmitters and results with the Hitec 2.4GHz Spectra installed.
The most comprehensive thread on the Hitec 2.4GHz system includes a tip for those frequently interchange modules and wish to avoid time taken to interchange PPM & 2.4Ghz TX antenna:
Antenna Mount - suggested alternative. Full thread has sufficient information to answer almost any question.

Thanks for the links AT. Next time I'll remember to search all other RC forums before posting questions here. My bad.

I have an Eclipse 7 that is only a few months old.

I bought it to replace an Eclipse 7 that is several years old.

I ran the older eclipse on a 3 cell lipo and did not have any trouble with it.

In fact it still operates fine.

I replaced it because it has been dropped several times and is held together with JB weld.

My question is whether the Eclipse 7 can be operated on 3s with the 2.4 GHZ module.

Thanks,

Larry

AOK provided your Lipol pack has a voltage regulator built in so as not to exceed 12.0V.
Please refer to previous advices: Batteries_Lithium Polymer - Do Not Use Lipol in Transmitters
The Spectra Pro is designed to be used within two circuits, depending on pinouts, either the Aurora which is specifically designed to operate on 7.2v NiCad/NiMH or  2S Lipol, or the pinouts of earlier module based TX fitted with 9.6V NiCad/NiMH or 8 x AA Alkaline (12.0v), higher voltage voids warranty.
