I am trying to decide between the two. I listed the pros and cons of the two. I just want to know if I have got my facts right.

3PKS
Pros:
- More features than the DX3R
- Futaba reliability
- Backlit screen

Cons:
- Big, heavy and old design
- Heard rumors about receiver overheating

DX3R
Pros:
- Looks better than the 3PKS (according to me)
- Much lighter
- Uses only 4 AA Batteries

Cons:
- Heard rumors about the reliability
- Fewer features than the 3PKS

If the rumors about the lower quality of the DX3R is true, then I will definitely go for the 3PKS cause reliability is my top priority. But if not, then I will get the DX3R. I would like your feedback on the matter.
Thanks

I agree, I'd go for the 3pks. At the track I go to there are several people that have the dx3r, I tested it and would never sell my 3pks for one of those...
but that's just my opinion. Some people prefer the DX3r because it's lighter. I like a heavier radio, that's why i haven't bought a 4pk.....yet

I've had a 3PK since late 2003.....I love it and use it for almost all of my cars and trucks....I've never found it to be heavy. The nice thing with the 3PK is it's backwards compatable....You can get modules and Rx's to use it on 75 or 27 Mhz if you want to....I use a 1650 MaHr  rechargable in mine, and it lasts quite a while. The 2 guys I know at our track that have 4PKs love them, but for whatever reason, the battery does'nt seem to last very long. I'm not sure if it's how they use them, or something with the battery.  In both my 3PK and my earlier PCM Futaba, the factory NiCad packs lasted less than 6 months before they would'nt take a charge anymore. bout the only upgrading a 3PK needs is a good rechargable battery. I belive there are LiPos available for it now....

What makes the 3PK better, other than brand loyalty?

It has about every feature you need for any type of surface model....and the reliability is like that of a cinder block....you just don't have to think about it....My brother inlaw has JR radios for his aircraft, and he seems to have constant problems with glitches....not the sort that would cause a crash, but the kind that can be annoying if you're trying to fly a pattern or do a stunt....

I've used Futaba radios  since about 1987, and can honestly say i've never had a glitch that was'nt easily solved....

id go with the 3pk over spectrum anyday. You can hardly find any posts on problems people have with them because there really isnt any or at least nothing big that would cause a run away car.  I have seen people's cars run away due to a glitch or something in spectrum radios and heard their range is no good. I currently have the Nomadio Sensor and wish i brought the 3pk or 4pk now since the company discontinued the rc division of their products not too long ago

I have 2 3PK with ASSAN 2.4ghz modules,  can't beat $20 receivers.  Never had a single problem
