I bought one of RadSchak 4 place batteery chargers and 8 radshack
nimh 1.2v 2100mah batteries, for this avion-io plane I have...today after
flying for about 20mins, I recharged the plane off the xmtr like it sez...
no probs there, then took batts out of xmtr and put 4 in charger, they
charged in about 40 mins...then put other 4 batts in and they were
on charger for 2+ hrs, yet charger still going...don't make sense to me...
also, when I looked in back of xmtr where one of the batts fit there
was some whiteish powder around contacts...batts don't seem
bloated or anything...these are like brand new batteries!?!?! Any ideas
please??
thanks
don

If they were all full to begin with then yes, there's seems to be a problem since they all should've been discharged the same amount.

If they were brand new or sat for a long time or for other reason weren't all full (or all at the same level of charge) then that may explain the difference in charge times. It may even explain some white powder around contacts , but that may be a different problem with one cell only.

I would suggest charging them individually if possible to ensure that they are all full then try again. Next re-charge should take the same amount of time for both batches of 4.

Guver, thanks for this info...I've called radio shack and they agreed to swap all of it out for new
stuff, this was only second time the batts had been recharged, in fact only second time
plane had been flown....so I feel something wrong with batts or charger or both...bought them
only 10 days ago, so will swap out for new ones tomorrow and see how it all goes, I've been
chargin 4 at a time. Also the manual on this little plane sez to remove batt's from xmtr after
flying, is that something I should be doing? Don't understand why that would be necessary....
thanks
don

I'm no plane guy, but it seems if they will set for a long time (months) then removal is best. No, I don't do it. I'm lazy.

When you get the new ones try to ensure that they are all full (I don't know if you can individually with that charger) I hope so.

Guver thanks, I think I have to have two batts in the charger for it to work properly, I'll try that
sunday with the new setup...I prob won't remove batts from xmtr, unless I can't plan on flying
for several days,,,,the wind is the main thing around here...
thanks

Ok, then the best you can do is to feel them both at the end of charge. If they're equal temp then can assume they are both full. It is possible that the charger does them individually anyways which is good for the first time.
