I had the same problem. Make sure it has a rubber Oring on the new needle. I had to get a seal kit and replace all the the rings on the needles. Mine was a new engine also.

Looks good and if it comes with the seals on it like in the picture you are ready to go. Set the needle flush with the carb.

Yep, set it flush with the carb body and you should be good to go.

Also check the HSN and make sure it is not loose. I replaced the rubber seals on mine when my MSN almost fell out. I was having tuning issues and when I picked up the seal kit for the Axial 32 my engine would hold a better tune and had better temps.

never ever ever touch the mid range needle... just dont even look at it.. only to see if its there...!!!! follow this and you wont have a problem ever. it comes pre-set and never needs to be touched; check it once out of the box if it is even slighlty loose... take it out; hit the o-ring with some green slime (team as. makes it) and re-set to factory setings using thread locker on it.      for all those who even try setting the midrnge needle only to lose it later...i was told when i purchased my .28 not to touch the midrange or id be sorry and after some reading here.. he was right...

I never adjusted mine and the mid speed needle backed out by itself. This is a common problem with this engine.

It is a common problem with the Axial 28/32; Hpi K4.6/K5.9; Racer's Edge 32 and Surefire 32. The midrange screw is too heavy for the tint o-rings it comes with. When fixing this issue, clean the threads with alcohol on a Q-tip. Go to your local auto parts source and pick up a tube of Permatex High Temp Sealant. It comes in a small white .2 oz tube. Apply a small amount to the threaded portion of the screw, you do not want a glob, just enough to fill the threads. In fact, put a small amount on at the top of the threads and wipe it off between your finger and thumb by "unscrewing" the screw from between your thimb and finger. As you are installing the screw, stop when the head is about to enter the carburetor and apply a small amount of sealant to the outside circumference of the screw as it enters the carburetor body. Set the screw head flush with the carb body and wipe off the excess sealant. You should never have the self adjusting midrange screw problem again. Glen
