zope_pope -> Need some help with thrust figures guys.... (6/21/2003 7:35:08 AM)

Hey,
I have my DP Ultimate put together and want to do 3d with it so i bought a YS 1.40 DZ. Its a hell of a nice motor, but I just want to see if these thrust figures sound right, and whether i am loading the motor too much (I think i am just a tad). I have this engine with a 20x6 Pro Zinger and I am turning it at about 8100 rpm leaned fully (before i back off 200 rpm). At that setting I am getting about 18 lbs of thrust. I am using CP 30% heli fuel, and live at 6000 feet. Does that thrust reading sound a bit too optimistic? Also my airplane weighs in at about 12.5 lbs (the weight on the box is so off!!). My questions are, does this thrust reading sound right? What prop should i try to get more thrust, and finally, will this engine have enough power to 3d my bipe at my altitude. Thanks to everyone that helps out. I plan to fly not this tuesday but next. Thanks.

Adam

your thrust figures sound a little low actually. the way im figuring you are gettin at least 22 or 23 lbs. of thrust. That YS must be running like a champ to swing a 20 6 prop that fast. I may have to get me one. I have a saito 180 on my H9 Edge swinging a 16 8 at 9500 rpm. it is pretty good but then again i live at 600 asl. But i think that setup ought to work real good.

22 to 23 lbs? Wow, didnt think it was that much, then again it really does pull when i pick it up and try to hold it. Bryan, did you catch that i was at 6000 feet asl?? This may effect the thrust because there is less air to pull. Please let me know. I am thinking of switching to an APC 18x8W to run a little higher rpms and hopefully a little more efficient prop (I have found pro zingers to be not so efficient.) Thanks again for your reply.

I think that the 18x8/9w would give you a better bite of whatever air there is.

Anyone have experience with Bambula? Please let me know. also i need to know where to get one. Thanks.

Yes i considered the fact that you were at 6000 asl. At sea level i was getti actual figures of 28 and 29 lbs. of thrust. i took a lot away for the thinner air. I too would also try a 18*8/9.

Is this from experience or thrust hp? Just had to ask. thanks again for helping.

28 pounds? Thats a heck of alot.

zope_pope -> Need some help with thrust figures guys.... (6/23/2003 1:17:16 AM)

If i get 20 pounds i will be happy. Infact if get 18 lbs i will be happy, can someone help me put my worries away? I know i worry too much. :P Thanks again

I'll give you some stuff from my YS 140L. It is turning an APC 16x11 at 8,960RPM, and 2600RPM at idle. This engine should put out about 18 pounds+, so your DZ, which is alot more powerfull, should give out about 22 I think. 28 pounds I think is either optimistic (Thrust HP), or one helluva motor.

Hey thanks, Just remember i am at altitude, but i think i should be able to produce that much. Proabaly 19-20 at my altitude. By the way, how much do you think thrust hp is off by?

robert -> Need some help with thrust figures guys.... (6/23/2003 1:33:04 AM)

I think that your performance (12 pound bibe at that altitude) would still be sensational, probably hovering at 3/4 stick. Just get the drill out and look for obvious not wanted weight.
I have no idea about thrust HP, but it can't be accurate.

Yeah, It looks like they took most of the weight out, but I am going to look for some carbon fiber gear (not sure it will help because it is tail heavy). Well maybe i could lighten up that tail section. Thanks for everyones help. According to thrust hp My 40 LA would hover my Trainer. :P
