this plane won 1st place at Toledo.
In the cockpit, the throttle and stick moves when their respective stick is moved on the transmitter.

Flying warbirds on the weekends means doing PM during the week!

C-45 twin beechcraft:
It looked like rain so I was moving her under the shelter and crunched one rudder against another pilots head, who was doing some work (unlike me!).

pic 1:
Fortunately, a wire holds the rudder on so it was easy to remove the rudder for an easier repair job.

pic 2:
I used an X-acto knife and cut the fabric along the back edge of the rudder and pealed the fabric back.
The back edge got damaged and the control horn mount broke loose.

pic 3:
Some epoxy fixed the mount.

pic 4:
The TE of the rudder was wavy so I clamped it to a board while the glue sets.

F8F bearcat:
The plans say 7 3/4" back: the CG was balanced at 6 1/2" and she was still tail heavy.

pic 5/6:
I made a 1/4" thick ply weight box that connects to the engine box and sits over the top of the engine.
Paper templates were made to insure the ply form would fit and 8 screws hold the weight assembly to the engine box.

pic 7:
I finally ran out of lead shot after about 30 years and had to buy more.
25 pounds for about 40 bucks ($1.50 a pound: cheaper than steak!) at a local gun shop.
It's about 1/16" in diameter.

pic 8:
I poured the shot into a plastic sandwich bag which is about 1 1/4" X 2" X 5" (that should be enough!).

pic 9:
Some foam was used to fill the partially filled box and the lid was screwed on.
I'll have to wait for my daughter to come over to check where the new CG is.

With the new weight, the Bearcat CG was too far foward at 2": I removed enough to make it 3/4" forward: that should do it.

This seems to work on my air cylinder o-rings:
Some A/CPro PAG 46 refrigerant oil (low viscosity).
Eight ounces for 5 bucks from my local auto store.
If you want 'tried and true', BVM's o-ring lube but it's 10 bucks for about 2 ounces plus another $7.50 for shipping.

It amazing how many nice fields are out there.
This is another fine 800' grass runway that is part of a full size runway.
As usual, the people were great and I now have several more new friends.

August always seems to be a somewhat boring time in my area: no warbird event within 150 miles. SO, I am looking at expanding my range, and doing some camping at the same time.

I see there are a few warbird events in Ohio during August, which are closer to you, so I am wondering what your thoughts might be on any of them (are they worth traveling 300 miles or so to participate in?). I would also need to be able to either camp on site OR camp nearby at a nice campground (state and county campgrounds preffered).

One of them that I was investigating was "Warbirds at the Summit", near Tallmadge, OH. But I found thier club web-site, and altho they state “military only” event: they have scheduled a "40% Extra 330 Stunt Plane Demo" (which will likely close the field to military flying?), and "a flying lawn mower will perform aerial displays during the day", and another scheduled event "Jet Turbine aircraft demo (max. speed 200mph)", which may not even be a 'military' jet.

Altho I 'Have Warbirds, Will Travel', I'm not ready to spend the gas money for any warbird event that doesn't have a good attendence of warbirds, and/ or has non-military side-show(s).

So, any ideas/ will you be traveling to any of the Ohio warbird events during August?

I see that there are warbird events near Lisdon and Alliance.

I heard that Tallmadge has a good flyin but I haven't been there. (haven't been to Lisdon or Alliance, either).
Their half show time probably only lasts an hour which will probably be during chow time, anyway, so that shouldn't be bad.
My club has their big circus show this weekend (8-8) which is just members of the club flying a 4 hour show at the local county airport for the general public (about 5000 people show up on the two day event).
The following weekend (I'm actually leaving on Monday) I'll be at warbirds over fond du lac, Wis.
Then dawn patrol at Muncie on 8-22.
Then warbirds over Muncie on labor day.
There is one weekend open 8-29 where Champaign, Ill. is having a giant scale flyin but I haven't checked it out yet.
The truly big warbird shows that I know of is Delaware, Muncie on Labor day and Fond du lac (there's probably others that I don't know about that are within reasonable driving distances for us).
The rest of them that I have attended aren't real big but I enjoy just to fly at new fields and meeting new people.

Status: offline 		Yep, it's 80" minimum (if you're 78", probably, no one will say anything).
You can always go just to watch: heck, I probably only fly 3-4 times a day and the rest of the time, I'm watching!
Their field is 1300' long by 300' and all grass: I've heard one of the best fields in the country (this year will be my first time there)

Bringing two new FW 190's to 'unveil' there...and hopefully my Platt 109 will sneak in as giant scale. Even if I don't fly, I'm sure I'll have a great time. Look me up when you're there Sam...look for the rotte of German planes and I won't be far probably...lol.

GCRCC CIRCUS at Butler county airport, Butler, Ohio.
12 miles

This is my club's annual show to introduce the general public about RC modeling.
About 175 aircraft from the club members put on the show for a solid 4 hour show each day.
I'm guessing there was about 3000 people at the show for today (Saturday).
This show, along with other events during the year, generate about $5000 donated to local charities by the club.
I didn't get pictures of all the high lights but here are a few of them.

Akron MAPS Museum Air Show
Warbirds at the Summit is modeled after the Akron MAPS museum air show. What you will find at MAPS is lots of classic WWII fighters and bombers flying for the crowd. Mixed in every few hours is a stunt plane for a little Dare Devil excitement and change of pace. They also have a significant number of classic military vehicles on display such as tank, half tracks, and jeeps. I was trying to do all of these in my show because the formula works.
Flight Time
Our event is run like an air show with scheduled events. Typically pilots can fly 50-minutes each hour of the day.

Advertising
Warbirds at the Summit is advertised each year in Akron’s largest news paper. I send press releases to the media and we often get free coverage in other publications as well. In our first year we had 47-pilots, 75-aircraft and about 500-specators. My goal is to grow this event as much as possible. I don't have an exact count on spectators but we parked over 100-cars and sold twice as much food as last year with the threat of bad weather.

Yesterdays Warbird Event
I'm really proud of our club. We work hard to put on a good show. The crowd stayed even after a good downpour. They wanted to stay and see more. Other than the weather both pilots and spectators had nothing but good things to say to me and made an effort to track me down to let me know.

UH1-Huey Demo
Here is an early photo from yesterday's event which was a great success despite the threat of scattered thunderstorms. This scale UH1-Huey Jet Turbine Helicopter demonstration was worth the price of admission alone. It was so realistic it was kind of creepy. It looked, sounded, and flew totally scale. I played "Ride of the Walkyries" from the movie Apocalypse Now over the loud speakers for the 1st 2-minutes of his flight.

Warbirds and classics over the midwest, Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin.
550 miles.
I got there Tuesday afternoon and started flying on Wednesday.
I have to rate this field as the best that I have been to owing to the fact that it is an all grass 1400'X360' but also, there are no trees or other impairments.
The total club area is 20 acres.
Tuesday through Saturday was all sun with winds usually down the runway from the South.

This first group of pictures are of the field.
One real nice thing about a long scale field is you can just throttle back, not touch the elevator, and let gravity bring the plane to the ground with the wheels gently kissing the runway for a nice scale landing.

(landing lights and nav lights are virtually invisible in the bright sun).
I had only one binding problem on the canopy and it had to occur during 'taping'!
(that big ugly dude sure ruined the 'affect'!).

There were about 300 planes.
The mustang has some real nice rivet detail.
