I was wondering if it was all composite.
Where did you buy yours? Is there a US distributor, or do you have to buy it from Germany?

Jim,

I got mine half built from a guy in LA. He ran out of time and I was in the right place at the right time. I believe you can go through their website and find where to buy one. Also, Steve Thomas, Owner of Bob's Hobby Shop in Orlando, FL has a bit of a contact with the manufacturer in Europe and would probably help you out. He found mine for me! You can find Steve at www.bobshobbycenter.com

Great guy and very willing to help the hobbiest!

Happy Hunting!

Scott

If still interested in a P-47 and you don't mind building, Ziroli does offer a fiberglass fuse for the 93" Jug. The cost of the fiberglass fuse, bellypan, cowl, and plans is less than $500. You would also need the wood kit which I believe about $300. Check out the Ziroli Plans website.

The Ziroli P-47 is the same design as the Robart. I'd rather have the all composite Robart. I've just got to find out when Ropbart is going to get some more of their P-47's.

Hey Hammbone,

FYI. I am doing a Meister 47 with a 150 in it and a buddy of mine has finished one, also with a 150 in it and is ready to do the maiden. The meister is much larger than the Robart and the Moki 150's just fit in there nice and snug. In fact the top half of the heads are not visible as the cowl engulfs them. Therefore some special baffling of air is required to cool them in my opinion. Will the 150 fit the Robart 47? I know you said you'd enlarge the cowl but at what cost? Will it look like it has a swollen nose? Have you seen a Robart 47 with the 150 in it?

Anyhow, good luck with your project and keep us posted. If you can make it to Monster Planes in October (www.monsterplanes.com) you'll hopefully see two Meister Scale 47's flying with Moki 150's in them. Should be a cool sound if we fly them together and make a fast, low pass at the same time. Fun, fun, fun!

See you there???

I am considering the Meister P-47 also, I'm just not sure if I'm up for a full build. I know Meister has the fiberglass fuse for their P-47, but it's still going to be a lot of work.
I haven't ruled it out, but I really have to decide if I'm willing to do that much work.

I've heard that the Robart cowl is only about 1/2" shy of the Moki fitting in it. I don't know if a 1/2" enlargement would even be noticeable to me. I think the cowl would just have less taper as it narrows to the nose. I'm not sure though, and you bring up a valid point of consideration.

Thanks, Jim

Did your buddies Meister balance out well with the Moki?
Do you have any pics of the baffling you are talking about?

Thanks, Jim

Jim,

I think fitting it in the Robart would be a huge challange. I understand your frustration with the decision. I recently bought PJ Ash's Meister P-47 from Top Gun to put my Moki in. I had crashed my Yak 11 and I couldn't wait to fly that engine again and didn't want to endure the long process of a build before I could use it again.

The Meister 47 balances perfect with the 150 in there. No extra weight needed. Just moving equipment a little balanced it great. Keep most everything you can near the front. Leave the batteries for last and move them where needed for balance. My buddy will be maidening his in the coming weeks and I should have mine fitted and ready to go in a month or so. Can't wait and I'll let you know how it goes. The engine is a perfect match for it much like it was for the Yak 11.

The baffeling is time consuming but easy to do. If you send me a PM with your email address I will send you a pic of the baffling I did on the Yak11 installation. I don't have any of the P-47 as neither of us have done the baffeling on them yet. He will fly the maiden without baffeling, get a temperature reading and then determine if he wants to do it. My experience with it tells me he will surely need it. IMHO.

Try and find a used MS P-47 and convert it like I am, or go for the Yak11. I was going to get another one if I hadn't bumped into PJ and found his available. They are expensive if in good working order with a decent finish on them and they should be. There's a lot of blood, sweat, and tears in these suckers.............even the fiberglass fuse ones! If you had a new Yak11 complete kit I would even consider a trade+$ if you wanted a MS P-47 ready to go that bad.

I'll look for your PM with the e-mail address. Hope some of this helps you Jim.

Jim,

The guy above is Steve Thomas. He's the guy to talk to about getting a Yak 11 from Skygate. They were here during Top Gun and were speaking to Steve about maybe becomming a distributor for them in the USA. Give him a call.

Hi

I recently got a Vailly Fw190 and put Moki 150 in it after doing some initial measuring before purchase...seems to fit just right and with the FW stubby nose the extra weight is needed anyhow...I framed it up in about 4 weeks...goes together pretty quick...of course the rest of the build and scaling it out will be the long haul

...yeah I heard the sound of the Moki radial on a fly by and changes the whole perspective of flying.....

M

Hi,

I'm french and not so good in english (sorry ...)
I'm building a Vailly FW190 (90') I've already made the wing : http://fw190.canalblog.com.
I wish put a Moki 150 on it.
Is it possible ?
With the weight of the engine, the plane doesn't risk to be too heavy ?
And the balance of the plane is not so hard to do ?

Thank's

Best regards
Arnaud

Hi Arnaud

Your build is looking good....I posed the same question to someone who already has built and flown the Vailly Fw190, and he figured out the math for me on the weight. I think he put a GT-80 in it and still had to add a few pounds to get it to balance. Considering weight given includes ignition, he figured his engine weight against the Moki, plus the weight ne need to balance it, and said I would still need about 100grams upfront...so give or take how you build the tail etc it should be fairly close. I am also beefing up the retract and engine mount areas also though just to be safe.

Also, many people are putting this engine in planes around the same size so it seems to work out in the end...we'll see how how it ends up. The complete build is over at http://www.rcscalebuilder.com in the Vailly Forums if your interested...

Yeah the Yak and LA7 Steve Thomas has are very coool!

Hi Matt

Thank's for the links. I'm sure now, I'll put the Moki 150 on my FW190.
In France Father Christmas don't came second times...
So I have to save a little

I'll use your precious information for building the fuselage.

Thank's
Arnaud

Man, That LA7 from Scale Wings looks totally awesome. If I only had room in my workshop to put another airplane. Sure love the size and the detail.
Awesome airplane for a Moki Radial.

Yep
The LA 7 is one of my fav's! and that one looks fantastic....

I may just settle for the YS international one for now..

But will not work for your 150cc.. radial.\

It is winter now, so if you want to build that nows the time....

Otherwise, just pick up a Extreme flight 110 yak, and throw that baby in there!...
YOu get the sound, and a great flying aircraft, w/o all the headaches those
warbirds can give you....

Far less to worry about... Talk about fun...

Thanks for the input guys.

My Moki 150 is still just sitting here. I haven't purchased an airframe for it yet. I'm not up for a full build, so that limits my choices dramatically.

I'm waiting to see if Yellow Aircraft will come out with their new Corsair in 2010, but I'm not holding my breath.

There's just not many good quality warbird ARF's around the 100" size.

I'm watching the "for sale" listings for a good used plane too, but not much has come up.

Hey Guys,
For all you Moki Warbird lovers I would like to invite you to visit www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8946260/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm which is the Moki Radial Care and Maintenance thread here on RCU. It's there to help all the owners better understand their engines since the owners manual is virtually non-existent. Please have a look, learn what you can, ask what you aren't sure about, and offer any and all information not already in the thread.

Thanks for visiting and have a great Holiday Season!

Scott
