I think the issue with the 1/10 is trying to fit two turbines. One p-120(28) or a Titan (34) make more sense. Less plumbing etc. It actually is $ wise more sensible to go one big one. 2 p-80's are $5K for both while a P120 is $3200 and a Titan is $3500. I am not sure wht kind of construction changes are necessary for the 1/10 F-14 but I am sure they are doable.

I emailed with Tony about the F-18 and he sells Jetcat and JetJoe and he was going to put 2 jj1800's at 18# each in before I bought it but he also said the big engine is really a good way to go. By the way he said the JetJoe engines have really improved and he flies four of them and they have been very reliable so that is good news cause they are inexpensive.

Since I have located several clubs in my are that support turbines I am leaning that way I think but I reserve the right to change my mind.

Except that with the design of the F14 you cannot use a single engine in the middle with a bifurcated pipe unless you wanted to severely alter the design and scale of the fuse.

rhallgarth,

LGM is right, the design of the F-14 won't let you use a single turbine. I tried that for a couple of month's and without altering the style of the fuselage it just wasn't possible. I talked with a couple of guys who agreed with my decision that I HAD to use two powerplants. I wanted to use one but the final decision was it wouldn't work, I'm not saying that I tried everything but I tried everything that I knew (might not have been enough but it's all I had).

I guess I could use a single in the F-18. I might go with two JetJoe's JJ1800's then. I can use them in other platforms since the put out #18 each although I really do like those p-80's. Choices, choices. Might do EDF and save myself the aggravtion.

When the glass fuse gets here I'll look at it more cloesly but I started thinking the same way when I was walking the dog. I was thinking more on the lines of intake.

Thanks for the good feedback

i agree.. two or somethings w/ more than 20#'s of thrust each is the way to go. I've "heard" that the big twin w/ a the big singles slows down a good bit in the turns b/c the intakes act like a huge air brake. this is what i've heard, haven't experienced it myself, so i'm not 100% sure if its tru or not.

That is a very interesting comment because I was thinking along those line myself. The real birds have computer controlled inlet technology that opens and restricts intake based on speed, angle of attack etc.. They inlets bleed air away as the plane approaches transonic speed. The Tomcat bleeds the air out the top with deflector vanes. They originally had two vanes but simplified it to one. Ironically the first swing wing plane from grumman the F-111 had the opposite problem. Its inlet technology was so bad the plane could never get enough air to reach the engine performance and plane top speed. That and the fact it was a freaking tank.

That is one of the reasons I believe super scale tomcats are problematic if they are scale and why would anyone build one that wasn't scale??? That is a lot of air coming into that inlet with no place for it to go and even the largest turbines cannot handle it all. Very interesting problem.

I have no intention of doing 3D flying or stunts with either the F-14 or the F-18 twin. I'll get my need for speed on Cannon Mountain this winter.

Last year, or so, , , out of curiousity, I took the F-14 plans up to a size that would fit a single turbine.

Basically, your looking at something around 1/5 scale. 148" length, 153" span.

At 1/5 scale, you'll get about a 6" diameter engine bay in the center, then it would fit a bifurcated pipe.

It would probably be something for the giant LaForte in France, probably go way over 100 pounds, and I don't think there would be an engine big enough to push.

invertmast,

Where did you get the bifurcated exhaust setup for the Y/A F-18?? I'm going to use twin JetCat p-80's or twin JetJoe JJ-1800s which were just upgraded to 20+ pounds with the new fuel pump. Leaning towards the jetCat although the JetJoe price is sort of tempting. Just not sure I trust them.

Have you ever made a post that didn't ask for video?

Video F-18? Video F-16? Video F-22? Video A-10?
Holy cow, post a video yourself for a change.

LOL, I just randomly went through his post history and I didn't find a single post that wasn't asking for video :P

I got my tailpipes (single dual wall pipe per turbine) from Gary Mueller at Jet Tech (along w/ my fuel cells).

Price was very good for the pipes (around $325 shipped) and are nicely made.

I know! It's to the point where I think he's doing it to be annoying.

Heck, as far back as 3 years ago we were making jokes and posting random "Judiniduhindunadal asks...Video (insert thread subject here)?

It's now starting to p*ss me off, for reasons I'm unsure of
