Hey;
I got my old...(early 70's) swordsman in the water and I want to thank everyone for the help on "planking tips" and "motor sizing"!  The planking went great (and is fooling everyone)...all I did was put the planks in with my mechanical pencil before I finished the deck....(a simple solution for a complicated problem)....it was a great idea..(thanks!)...  The powerplant ended up being a "car motor"...a 775 off of a "rock crawler" running on two 3300 mah nickel metal hydridrides in parallel..(7.2V).  I get about 20 min run time at what I can tell is a scale speed....!  It is really a fun boat since I think (am not sure) that it is probably the only "semi scale"  (I would say scale but I am not a good scale modeler...sport scale may be the name)....model in the middle of the usa...(wichita, ks).

Soon there will be another scale boat...(wife wanted a billings "phantom")....so how do you guy's and gals build with an instruction sheet that has about 10 steps? There is really NO instructions on finishing a boat....!

So,  Here is my question "how do ya finish a boat???" .  There must be 1000 way's to do it....the swordsman got  a few coats of paint "Lustre Coat"...on the bottom...and a couple of coats of "spar varnish" on the top...

The phantom is getting a couple of coats of epoxy....a couple of coats of  "lustre coat" on the painted parts.....then a couple of coats of hand rubbed laquer on the wood parts....
So what do you use to finish?......

Oh...Yea..thanks again for all the help on the 40+ year old boat....(OMG I am getting old).....but ya know it looks better and runs WAY better than it did back in 74......!

Steve
