Status: offline 		Got some epoxy resin goodness applied :P This is the third layer. I have been wiping it on with an old gift card. Makes really thin clean layers. I'm not going to bother sanding it yet till I get the deck on. Float test coming soon

Status: offline 		I was hoping to test float her this weekend but mother nature had other plans. Frozen solid (mostly) and it's too big to test in the bathtub. Hopefully it melts in a few days when it gets above freezing. I instead coated the inside of the hull with the first coat of resin. I'll probably do 2 total. Gonna go work on the rudders now.

Status: offline 		Nice looking build any pics of the engine mount you made to fix it into the wooden framework.Im going to be building one over the winter but my hull will be glass over foam and ill be making glass hulls from the mould i make from the plug .

these are the frame mounted engine mounts. I think it's 1/2 plywood.

Status: offline 		A bit of an update. My dad found me a really nice 4x6 piece of 1/8 plywood at one of his shops. i even had some to spare to make a deck house for my springer tug/fire boat. In the process of laying out cutting lines, glue lines, and where some re-enforcement will be for possible future cage mounts. This is for the decking, and is one of the final pieces of the puzzle.

and just for the heck of it, my dog with his new toy after a long Christmas day of opening presents.

Status: offline 		got the deck cut and glued down. Currently have the front edge gluing, then going to run a glue fillet all the way around the outer edge of hull deck then trim to size.

my friend came over to help me epoxy the deck down. did it in 4 minutes flat. (5 min epoxy)

What about fiberglass cloth to seal the deck and hull seam? Just like a strip like tape going around the outside?

Status: offline 		Yes that would work also. couple layers of 1-1/2oz. These boats are in the turns sideways and the side is most likely to hit more often than the bow.

Status: offline 		I got the excess deck material trimmed to the hull today with a hacksaw and a belt sander. I guess tomorrow I will do some sanding around the edges and prepare for fiberglass trim.

Here's a vid I forgot to post of the float test. It has about 6 extra pounds aboard in this vid to simulate the decking, epoxy and paint and fuel tank.

Ya, I've seen too many builds where a boat ends up not floating right and is either scrapped or revised. Plus, I wanted to check for leaks.

No problem.... They seem to behave nicely though when doing their job, or locked in a dark drawer.


I got a bit more work done today. I'm trying to get as much done as possible before I have to start up classes again next week. I cut our the rear decking pieces, and made holes for the linkages, throttle and ign. kill wire. I hope to either install this decking tomorrow, or do more work on the edges of the boat, after sealing the inside of the decking pieces tonight.

Status: offline 		As of today. Dosent look much different, but it is. Th rear channel area (not sure what it's called) is now all glued down and trimmed to fit. The hull is now completely sealed except for the radio box. I'm now adding wood filler to the slanted piece right behind the radio box to make it look smoother and to any messy joints. I feel like I'm working as an auto body person today . Probally next is shaping the nose a bit better, and then the fiberglass cloth along the edge.

Question, should I just use epoxy to fill the hole where the push rods come out?

Status: offline 		Current progress, dosent look like much to the untrained eye, but is actually about 4-5 hours worth of fiber-glassing/sanding the deck seam, and rear channel seams.

Summer break is starting up for me, hoping to begin the final coats of resin after a bit of sanding.

These boats are allot of work, and I'm a slow but steady worker
