Just got my Fliton extra 330, starting a support, and build thread. The plane is very well built, and almost too pretty to fly, almost   All of the hardware needed to build is provided in the ARF kit. I plan to use it all except the CA hinges. This plane is way too big for CA hinges, DO NOT use them. I'm using Dubro flat nylon hinges. I personally dont care for the pull pull rigging couplers, so I am changing to Dubro 4-40's. The couplers supplied are fine though. Carbon fiber wing tube, and painted carbon fiber gear are provided. The horizontal stabilizer is a fixed style. You can get the plane here http://www.advantagehobby.com/product.php?productid=102055&cat=175&page=1 Advantage is the USA distributor for Fliton.

My set up is going to be:

MLD 28 cc gas engine. It is the engine shown in the manual and you can get it here.
http://www.cermark.com/products/MLD%252d28S-GAS-ENGINE.html

Smartfly ignition regulator   http://www.cermark.com/products/SMART-FLY-Ignition-Regulator.html

Smartfly optical ignition kill. http://www.cermark.com/products/SMART-FLY-Ignition-Cutoff.html

Vess 18x6 prop

Hitec  HS 5625MG servo's all around, HS 81 on throttle. http://www.hitecrcd.com/servos/list

7.4 volt 2200 mah lipo for RX with Duralite 6 volt regulator, and 7.4 volt 1300 mah lipo for ignition.

Tru turn 3" spinner.

Here are some pictures I have so far.

Hey thanks for doing this Jimeni. Should give me a good idea of whether or not this is the plane I want.

No problem. Plane has been out for a little bit, figured there should be a build thread. I'll keep posting as I go. Pics, and flying videos when I get there. Flying weather may slow the build down a little

How does the landing gear carriage look on this? I know Fliton plane's have a reputation of weak landing gear mounts. In my Fliton AJ Extra I did a few stregthening mods and haven't had any issues.

Are you using dual elevator servos?

Looks like a lite coat of epoxy will be enough reinforcement. I'm not going to add any wood.

The quality is very nice. Looks like it will build much easier than the freestyle,

Its not that hard ... hinge it, glue on the h stab, cut the cowling and she is ready. Don't we love ARFs? When I got my 2 units, they had a lot of fine saw dust in the fuse. Was yours clean? My friends have not finished the planes, may wanna buy it back to covert it to EP.

No dust or shavings at all. The only issues I have so far are the canopy/hatch rear tab/backrest was warped, Soaked it with alcohol, and taped it in place until it dried, straightened it out for the most part, still a little gap. And the supplied CA hinges should have been pin hinges.

Jimeni have you had any experience with the Cermark or Peak Model aircraft? They both have some 70" Yak and Extras (looks like they carry the same models) and I was looking at this Yak from Peak Models as another possibility:  http://www.peakmodel.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_99_96&products_id=634

Just wondering how the quality of the arfs compare.

The only one I have experience with is Cermark's 28% edge 540, and it is great quality. I can tell you that Fliton's aircraft are some of the best flyers out there. I have another one, and there are some other Fliton models at the field where I fly. Dont know about their electric models though. I personally would go with Fliton, or Cermark.

Well I like the Extra best. I prefer a more scale like paint scheme, but this one will do.

One thing I heard about the Cermark Extra is, if you want to use dual elevator servos, you need low profile servos as there is not enough room in the fuse for them across from each other. Will you be able to fit 2 full sized servos in the Fliton Extra across from each other for the elevator.

Another thing I just noticed, the markings and hole on the firewall appear off center. Are they?

I had not heard that about Cermark's extra. I just went and put the elevator servo's in this one, and there was an 1 1/2" at least between them.

The off set is to account for right thrust, if it were not that way, your spinner would be off center. I did not really pay any attention until you said something, the off set is a little more pronounced than some other models, but so is my 60" Fliton extra, and on it, the spinner is centered better than on some other models. But all the planes I've had are this way.

If you would like to get an idea of the Flitons flight quality, here is a video of the 60" extra 330. They are very similar in design, and the larger one should fly even better.

ya I have the 50" Fliton AJ Extra, which also flies great. And I've read about alot of their other models, so I'm aware of their reputation for good flying models. I also have read alot about lack of quality and required mods to get their planes air worthy. So I just want to make sure I know what I'm getting into. Just wish this one had a bit more scale looking paint scheme!

Have you made any more progress on the model? With Cermark out of stock on the MLD-28 for who knows how long, I've been looking around and stumbled on this new coming engine: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8862472/anchors_8862472/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#8862472

Looks like it could be a pretty nice match for this plane as well.

I have not worked on it at all, sorry. But its going to be no where near mod city like the other fliton extra. I have not seen the need for any yet.

Have not started working on it again yet, probably tomorrow, after some flying of course But, looking at the engine box/firewall, I'll probably add a little tristock to the back side of the firewall since I'm putting a gas engine on it. Will put up some pics. This one should go together pretty quick.

How much room is there in the underside of the fuselage? Is there room at all for a small canister, or is that pretty much out of the question? The small engine I've been looking at is going to have its own canister option as well. Just wondering if there would actually be any room to really squeeze one in this fuselage. I'll have to see if I can get the actual dimensions for the canister.

Also, how well does the paint job on the cowling match the covering. Does it match well, or are they a slight different shade. Its hard to tell from the pictures I've seen.

Not sure, never installed one myself. But this pic should help. Under the opening that is below the engine box, you can see 3 tabs. That is the floor to which the gear mounts. Not much room under that at all. If you could work through the opening, and go out aft of that, you might be ok. If you want specific measurements, let me know what you need.

The canister is 1.5" diameter and 5" long. So if you could fit something like that in, then there might be room.
