JeffinTD,

You need to pack up that Rascal of yours and head my way for the BIG Rascal 110 Fly-in on the 25th & 26th of this month. I've already counted about 20 110's that should be here. You might even be able to take an extra Rascal 110 home with you as we have a 110 as one of the raffle prices. We'll be serving breakfast and lunch. Can't wait for this event.

You don't know how much I would love to (forecast for my days off 15-20 mph gusts to 35), but it wouldn't fit in my work schedule...

I'll be shooting some video and taking a lot of pics and will post them on the threads. This will be our third Rascal 110 fly-in and as long as there are Rascal 110's out there will probably keep having this event. It's just such a nice relaxing type event for the weekend.

Sounds great , I'll be watching, meanwhile I posted my 10th 11th and 12th flights on my Rascal 110 with Syssa power and the engine is running stronger. Originally tacked 7500rpm but without needel change it's now turning 8000rpm. Who knows after some more running it might pick up a couple hundred more (Xoar 18x6) All for now ....Jim

Wow, today I thought my engine was broken and I was going to need to send it back for repairs. It took three flips to get it started! Maybe the 100+ degree heat was getting to me and I wasn't flipping it over as hard as usual.

I slowed down quite a lot on my flying last month; only went through two gallons of gas. Having five doctors appointments and two eye surgeries took a toll on my flying. Got a good start this month, got in four good flights with nothing coming loose or falling off today.

Just reveived my replacement muffler today. There is a small spacer included. I assume this spacer goes between the muffler and the head?

It goes under the bolts, there are tabs on it that are to be bent up 90 degrees and against the bolt face to keep the bolts from coming loose. You don't need to use Locktite on the bolts.

Grey Permatex should be used between the muffler and the head to form a gasket.

It is best to use green Locktite on the small screws to hold the back of the muffler in place.

Well I finally recieved my second syssa today, I ordered late June so it took a while. It has the new style muffler which looks good and I also got a few things I didn't expect....Todd threw the muffler sound inserts in the box as well as his cdi mount. I did not order these items so was pleasently surprised to find them. I was a little choked that it took so long but in the end well worth it. The guy makes a quality engine and I'm really looking forward to seeing how they work in the air. I have to admit I was alittle nervous when I didn;t get responses to emails and phone calls, but my story has a happy ending. I just wanted to let everyone know.

Glad to hear you got your second engine. I would like to hear the sound of twins, that would be cool.

I never had the guts to build a twin, saw too many of them that had control problems when one engine quit. I think I would try to shut down the other engine too and just treat it like any other dead-stick landing. My GSS has survived several of those with very little damage.

Why all this drama about a freaking seal between an engine and a muffler?

Why not just get the $4 assortment of gasket material sheets at your local ACE & cut out a gasket out of one of the thinner pieces of stock, or even a thin sheet of Alum that you could cut w/a hobby knife?

There is no fuss, Grey Permatex between the muffler and the cylinder to form a gasket is quick and easy, no cutting or hole punching is required.

Yeap. I have never used a gasket on all my gassers. I use Permatex High-Temp RTV Silicone.

DeaneDome, No drama here; we're all just sharing options. I have used both and find the red RTV silicon easier and equal to or better than the paper material.

Hi Guys,

I just put the New Style CNC muffler on my Syssa, and I took a few photos. I knew you guys in this Syssa thread would want to see it up close. Liked the hex-head bolts. Didn't like that there were no Nord-Locks with it. I used Ultra Copper sealant for the seal between the engine and the muffler, and the Permatex Hi-Temp LockTite # 27200 (I think) for the bolts. Cleaned the threads out with a 10-32 tap, Acetone, and then spray alcohol to make sure there was no grease left in them. There are a TON of those little bolts for the back plate. Hard to get to some of them, I was tempted more than once to remove the engine to install this. Do I think it's going to work well?

Yes.

I'll let you know!

Nice install; what plane is that? Did you paint the box black? I also have the new muffler and like the quality.

This is the GP Giant Super Sportster. What a beautiful plane. I love it.

Today I'm installing the New muffler in my GP Super Stearman Bipe. A full inch less clearance behind this engine, so I'm giving some thought to yanking the engine for easier access.

I said above that I thought this would work well. That's because of the engineering on it, and the fact that having to do this much work to put a muffler on means that it wouldn't have been designed this way, unless it stood the best chance of lasting long-term.

Engineer's logic. But the structural premises are sound. No matter. Time will tell what nobody can know now.

The Nord-Locks are not required with this muffler. Just bend the tabs up against the face of the bolts, they won't rotate due to vibration. We used that principle on the "Jesus-nut" to hold the rotor blades on a helicopter, it works great.
