On my H9 Alpha 40, I used 6 bands in total, not once did I ever have a problem. Keep bands in a bottle of calc powder so not to perish. If bands show the slightest of nicks/cuts,through out. The stationary shop here stocks loads of different size and strenght bands and the cost is basically for free.Using 8 on each side and 4 across seems a bit excessive.

That's odd because that was the exact model I was referencing in my initial post.

I also have the H9 Alpha 40 and i put my rubberbands in a little ziplock with baby powder to absorb oil and moisture. I use the rubberbands that came with the RTF kit. I believe its 8. I've only had 4 flights on her so far and definately nothing risky maneuver wise but she seems to fly great!

as far as the EVO trainer system... its perfect so far! Its my first glow engine and its so easy to start its rediculous. I flip it with my finger and it fires first time EVERY time. Had to tweak the high end a little rich after 2 flights but other then that i love it! I cant wait to get her up in the air this weekend! woo

I am surprised that no-one has mentioned an alternative to rubber bands. I found that standard, out of the box type rubber bands, were adversely affected in time by fuel, so I now use 4 (1 each fore and aft and 2 on the diagonal) bands made from an inner tube. I cut them about 8mm wide.

Necessity is the mother of invention, I guess.

Rubber bands are cheap. Some of us just don't have a spare inner tube lying around.

Here is how I check; start with 5 on each side of the wings, hold the fuse down and with the other hand carefully pull up on the end of the wing, if the wing can be lifted from the saddle at all add more rubber bands then use 2-4 diagonally on the wing to hold everything together. Also is there is a good wind add more bands, some may break and cause your wing to come lose or come off! not good JuJu.

12 or so as everyone says with at least the last two to keep the others on ... Also which i didnt see mentioned.. you should atlernate where you start the attachement. For instance first two start at the rear.. next two start at the front and switch back and forth. This is because where you start first will have more stress as you pull on it. Also a good idea to hook the band on your dowel, then pull upwards and with it stretched then lay it across the wing and hook to the front or back whichever the case may be. less crushing possible if you don't have proper reinforcing on the leading or trailing edge.

glow fuel will also shorten thier life as well causing loss of elastcicity. I use mine two or 3 times tops if in an area where glo residue can get to them.

When my rubber bands are brand new(never used) I put on 10 total, after 1 to 3 flights I put on 12 and when they get a little stretched out I put on 2 extras.

Guys I've often wondered about this but never bothered to ask... How many rubber bands should we use to hold down our wings on our trainers like the PT40 and Avistar?

and what do you guys think of this enging Evolution Trainer Power System: A. sold on horizon hobby?

I've used eight on .25 through .60 size trainers since the mid eighties...I install them as follows:

1) 2 parallel to the fuse
2) 2 crisscross
3) 2 parallel to the fuse
4) 2 crisscross ( the last two being crisscrossed is very important as they will make sure the previous two don't slip off to vibration).

I pre-stretch all rubber band prior to using them...I've had rubber band pop although I check them before each flight. I never had a wing separate using this technique.
