Go to mds-engines.com. It's Russia. I ship to motorcycle parts to one of my dealers in Moscow. Should be no problem them shipping model engine parts to the good old USA! Tony

I have seen their site (mds-engines.com) and downloaded their catalogue. It seems that they have renewed their catalogue with two or three new engines, in the .50 cu.in size. They also sell the RMX engines that were designed with the cooperation of Ripmax as MDS FSX engines. As I have an RMX .40, I can assure you that they are very powerfull and, for the settings I have, reliable.

I have limited experience with MDS engines. The ones I have helped with and run were super strong. They also used 5% nitro and large props. they did need a little work to get setup. Seal everything you could, back plate, carb body to case, needle valve. i used high temp RTV. They had a extra long break in. Seemed like they never would break in. They did not like temperature changes. You would set the needle in the morning, again mid day, then again afternoon. they did have a serious QC issue. If you got one that ran well, it was a power house. If it would not run well, nothing you could do could change that. It was to bad they did not have a better QC. Dru.

I would call their QC "Hit-and-Miss" but if you got a good one, it was good. I had a 68 that was a sweet heart but the needle sensitivity would bite me on occasion

I would like to try a newer one too. I would like to see them do a better job on QC. I like to have a good selection of engines to choose from. I remember another company that has QC issues Thunder Tiger has come a long way. I would like to se MDS do the same thing. Dru.

I remember looking at TT engines of the late 80's or so in the LHS, they were pretty rough looking compared to the OS like fit and finish of today. I have some MDS blackhead 61's and some 68 pro's, they have improved some. I think the lousy carbs are what put the nails in the coffin for the later -8 series engines. This engine line might still be around if at the time, horizon had directed MDS to make a few slight changes for greater success.

This engine, in the .40 size, is what I have. I bought it in 2005, so it is not exactly new. It was then branded under the "RMX" name, which had to do with MDS cooperation with Ripmax (Ripmax gave their feedback during the design process, probably). It is a good design and I think that its carburettor is its strongest part, since it achieves low idle and smooth pick up. No issues with needle sensitivity, according to my experience with it. I broke it in with 10% Tornado fuel and now I burn 15% Morgan green. It is a powerhouse and more than adequate for my trainer (and I have tuned it rich mixture). Maybe the finishing could be better, but anyway.

What about MDS 58? I think it is a real powerhouse. Same size as 40 wegiht is exacly the same as os max 55ax but Bore and stroke are bigger. So it should swing a 13x4w with authority. If someone have this engines please post tach results.

OP, what parts do you need and for what size engine?? I have a couple under the bench that arean't ever going to see flight again. I could look and see what I have. I had OK luck with the .68 but the .58s all broke at the case right at the muffler. Horizon just kept sending me new engines until I got fed up with them.
