How would a 5000mah 20c 7.4v lipo compare to a 5000mah 8.4v 7 cell nimh battery compare as far as performance and run time?

What C rating for the NiMH? That Lipo would be rated for 100 amps which would certainly give you great punch off the line, that would be important for a brushless setup. Theoretically, they would give you the similar run times and I think they would be discharging at similiar voltages (~8volt?) during discharge.

I dont know the c rating of the nimh, that is why I ask. It is a 8.4v 7 cell 5000mah venom nimh battery. It wont be going into a brushless set-up, its going in a brushed e-revo with a 700 H.O Kershaw motor. I will have a voltage cut off in it also.

Different brands of NiMh batteries can be different. It depends on the internal structure and the internal impedance of the battery. In general, NiMh have a higher internal resistance than NiCad. I'm not sure but I think in general LiPo's also have a higher internal impedance than NiCad's do. Anybody know for sure?. It is really the internal impedance of the battery that determines the maximum current you can safely draw.

My question is will a zippy 5000mah 20c lipo give more power, punch, and last longer than a 8.4v 5000mah 7 cell nimh venom battery?

I assume the lipo your asking about is a 2s lipo, since that is about the same as a 7 cell nimh. If thats correct, then the lipo's power, punch and runtime will be better than a Venom nihm battery. BTW Venom nihms are notorious for being crappy batteries. If the nimh battery were a more reputable battery the runtime and power would be closer to the lipo.

Venoms aren't the best. Zippys aren't the best either. Yet, I think the Zippy will perform better and definitely give you more off-the-line punch.
