I previously posted in the profile general area. I ended up buying the Yak profile from my LHS. I am going to use all Hitec Digital servos. 5925mg on rudder and elev and 6965hb on ailerons and throttle.

Is this plane intended to have two elevator servos? There is no joiner on the halves.

I bought a YS110 for the plane. I am going to run a 16x6 and 2 1/2" spinner.

What size tank should I get?

Do my servos and motor combo sound correct?

Don't use the spinner. It's a profile. No cowl for the spinner to mate to. Looks silly.

YS 110 is a great motor for it. Servos sound OK.

Mine came with a U shaped wire elevator joiner in the hardware kit. I Like the Hayes 13oz for that motor/plane.

Thanks. Do you use a spinner nut?

How long can you fly with the 13 oz tank? Most of the flight is probably at 1/2 throttle, so it is probably pretty decent.

What is the leading of the elevator halves made of? I think I will router it out and put a CF rod in it. I would assume there is tiangle balsa where the elevators meet the stab, but what is next to that on the elevators?

There was supposed to be a wire joiner for the elevator halves. 1/8" wire shaped like a "U" to join the two. The builder must have left it out. Only one servo required for the elevator.

Spinner nut is OK but the stock locking nut set works great. After my 110 was broken in, I like it best with a 17x4 Xoar or a 16x6 on 25-30%. 13oz gives 10-15 minutes. I don't know what's inside the ele construction. Don't mount the fuel tank solid. Use foam under it and rubber bands.

Does it matter which way I mount the aileron servos? Should the output be towards the leading or trailing edge?

Brian,

A couple on installation comments on the YS 1.10.
Be very careful with the installation into the provided wood rails. In my case they were not well glued into the structure and were shaken loose by this rather powerful motor. I replaced them with a 1/2" plywood U shaped plate that I epoxied into the nose of the plane. On top of that, I put a number of 3-4 thin glass layers on each side of the slab (see pictures). This has worked now for me for over a year without any issues.
The standard tank of 350cc is in fact good for about 10 min., set your timer for no longer, this is a thirsty motor.

Herb, I think this one was a kit build and not the ARF. MNRC, does not matter how you mount your ron servos. Your preference but most put the control arm closer to the surface to reduce the pushrod length.

I can't see how that would matter on any airframe. You could say there is a preference toward the trailing edge to make the control rods shorter.

I have a YS 110 to put into this plane. Is the 16x6 a good choice. I have the prop. It is an apc, or is there somthing that works a lot better?

Also, the motor doesnt fit tight in the mount. I can add some light ply. Is it important to keep the motor centered, or can I just add some ply to one side or the other. It appears to be about 1/8 inch.

Do I also need some right thrust on this motor? Is a washer on each side enough to start?

Don't use light-ply for the motor mount area as it won't last at all. Use good hard aircraft ply or hardwood. A 16-6 is a good prop for the YS110. I used both a 16-4W and a 16-6 with success. Also depends on how much nitro you run. Keep the motor centered in the mount and add about 2-3 degrees of right thrust.

I am getting there. I have the servos mounted. I am going to finish up my linkages tomorrow. I also need to mount my tank.

Where do I need to put the CG on this?

I used to build a kit quicker than this. Now I know what the people meant when they said it was hard to build with kids, wife, job, etc. Plus I had to rebuild my helis. I am trying to fly them inverted.

The cg on the 65" Yak was 7-8 inches back from the leading edge at the root. Start at the forward location and work back to tailor for your liking.

How do I mount the horn and linkage for the elevator? It seems tight? Or do I have the servos backward? They are both in line with each other and mounted on the same side. Do I need to move the arms for the elevator to the other side? Do I offset it?

I would mount the elev servo with the arm on the other side of the fuse. With extreme throws in the tail you could have some interference problems.

Concur with Dave. That was the typical setup....servos facing opposite each other.
