My mate and I have been having fun doing up our tigers fom the ground up. Thought i might show you some of his improvement work. He made his own 3:1 gearbox added metal wheels and sprocket, metal tracks, metal swing arms ,added 6mm axels right through. Added bearings onto the driveshaft , which I can't recommend enough to lock it in , with no movement other than what it should do.He is installing an rx 18 board , is modifying the smoke unit and we will both get creepingdeaths almost ready sound mod. Thats not all but the rest is for the future.

Very impressive rebuild so far. One can see a LOT of thought and effort have gone into the build. Keep up the good work

What's up with the picture of the electronics. Is there something special going on in there or is that just to graphically represent the swap over to an RX18??????

YHR That was simply illustrating the size difference between the two. There is however much starting to happen with electrics for r/c tanks. New sound modules and dmd units by chinese companies unrelated to heng long are coming outsoon . These will be superior to tamiyas and much cheaper. In fact there is starting to be a lot of extra's for upgrading your tank inside and out , I certainly want the steel 3:1 gearboxes from R/C Command when there ready.

Tiger has been reassembled and test run on the test track. It will be coming apart again but for now the running gear is on test.

The Tiger really looks great there LT! As does the "test track"... I love the bridge! I'm going to have to build one of those in the wife's flower beds one of these days

Hi

Nice looking Tiger on the Bridge.

You mentioned new DMD type units coming out soon. Do you have any more details such as dates and prices because I was planning an El-Mod setup for my Jagdpanther which is around the same cost as Tamiya DMDs. If there is something better priced coming along I might just hold off buying at present.

cheers

R/C TANKS ARE MAKING INROADS INTO THE R/C WORLD.They are getting cheaper and they dont crash into the ground and destruct or sink in the lake. Like planes and boats

Beautiful job on this tank. New to tanks ,did you paint the tracks? I am hesitant about painting my metal tracks. Is there a special paint for this?
I have two Pershings but want a german tank as well.

Very impressive battlefield. Looks like you have a hill in your yard that you've put to good use. Did you make all of the power lines, barbed wire, etc?

G'day , The metal tracks are unpainted , just drive them in the dirt mate. That gives them the most realistic look ever. The power poles are hand made as is the barbed wire.

Minor disaster , the front drive axle L/H side has started to slip inside the final gear . We will now drill a pin through the gear and shaft to lock them together . Because the gears were reversed for the 3:1 mod , not enough of the anti slip lock teeth on the shaft were inside the gear to prevent slipping under pressure. Hope this helps someone !!!

I have had to do the same thing on occasion. It drills pretty good. I used a small finishing nail. I was then able to tap the oversize head and get it to set tightly in the hole that was drilled.

Like your battle zone in the yard. I need to show the wife this to let her know "other" wifes allow it

LOL! The other day the wife and I passed a house down the street that had ripped out approx. 50% of the grass in their front yard and it was down to bare dirt. It had a decent sized mound that leveled off in the back toward the house and looked a lot like what you've built. I stopped, looked at her, and said "Do you think he is building that for his tanks?" She kind of rolled her eyes and said, "He probably is". Just another tiny bit of tank indoctrination/conditioning on my part. You've got to wear them down and maybe one day they will submit

I've been told we need an acreage with Horses, if I am to have a Battle zone. Seems as though the negotiating has started. I wonder if a pogo stick in the garage will suffice. That's my end point going into this.

Working on a idler track tensioner for the tiger 1 that will be easy for anyone to do. Got it worked out, just got to make a prototype. Will post detail pics when I get around to it. all you need will be some 8mm steel round, and some 8mm thick plate steel . The amounts needed are the equivalent of a steel makers scrap bin bits.So should be able to get it for nothing.
