Guys...

I'm starting with loose parts here, and got a set of plastic tracks, but they seem short. Its like they are one link per side shy. I get a count of 73 links... am I short a few? If so, anyone able to shoot me some (w/ pins please?)

- finally started on one of M41 chassis project...

Is no-one up to counting their plastic Bulldog track links?

Ah, bet I know why... its the WEEKEND. Too many beers w/o enough steak/burgers and you can't count past a 6-pack, right? (or perhaps a dozen for the few hare are alcohol-tolerant)

Just yanking the tow-chain...

Oy...

Two days, 58 reads, but no-one has a Bulldog that they can count the stock track-links on? And I thought the Bulldog was a popular choice.

If this is what happens when I get stock tracks, I'm NEVER gonna get metal ones for the HL tanks. Buying a spare set of stock ones for spare links is ok, but a spare set of metals for a few links? FORGET IT.

Update (22:45 EDT) BubbaJoe has informed me that HL QC is poor, and the packages OFTEN come with only 73 links, and you need 74 for a full track.

Anyone able to mail me some spare links? I'll cover postage.

Hi WhiteWolf,

74 links on the left and 73 on the right. I've got three spare links and pins that came with my new M41. E-mail me with your address.

HAH... Thanks vollenc

Shows how erratic QC is for HL track packaging is. You got what, 75 links each side? I got 73! I'm guessing that Glue-Guy's buddy who packs the tracks can't count past 10 very accurately... especially when he's handling the tracks! Mebbe he should measure the tracks on an intact chassis instead... the full tank purchases never end up with shorted tracks (or do they?) That or a pre-measured X distance on the side of a desk/table, and he isn't supposed to separate/pack ~less~ than X distance?

I used to be a computer assembler (Desktops & Laptops) and we were often tail-end QA/QC for contracts (Zenith was BAD for that) Now I see thats why the company went under, the supplier was making us do their job, and it put us under (Antares Electronics, RiP) When you get a shipment of 25 laptops, and have to scavenge the 10 DOA's to get 5 running so you can send out the 20 you need, its BAD. Then they wonder why they get sent back DOA's with ~multiple~ failures... DUH.

Bill, Murphy, you guys wanna scream at HL's Quality control department, and try to see if they can pack a few ~extra~ links instead of shorting half of us buy a link or two?? I really wasn't looking forward to having to buy a second set JUST to get a few links that should have been there in the first place. Heck, only time I've really everdone that is when I needed 10 links per side to 'stretch' a Pershing set into a Leo 1A4 set (and the same 'spare' set was used again for Leo 1A4 #2 - still got leftovers!)

WhiteWolf

I have already packed another track for you, per email. Looked at 4 different sets that were installed on tanks, each had 73 links.

Bill:

Metal or plastics? I've heard the metals only take 73 links per side, but that may be a result of less shrinkage in casting. I compared the M26 Pershing links (Tamiya and HL plastics) and the HL came out 2 links short, even thought they were supposedly cast from a Tamiya link-mold.

As for the variance... heck, I could post a pic of my 73-link tracks being helf together with garbage-bag ties because of the one link shortage (both sides) and I cannot see why one side would be shorter than the other, seeing as unlike other tanks, the suspension mounts are NOT staggered.

Could it be that there is THAT much variance in tracks that one 73-link section is the same length as a 74 link section? Anyone care to see if they can side-swap (like tire-rotating) their 73-vs-74 link track-sections? It would be an interesting experiment, if we can get enough of a survey quantity. Bill, could you lay a bunch of equal-quantity links out and see if there is a variance (just for sh*ts & giggles)

Not that I'd expect HL can do anything about the casting shrinkage factor, but perhaps they could go that bit further to provide matched-length track sections, with a ~few~ spare links.

And thanks Bill, dinna want to name names, as I know the shortage isn't your fault. HL is getting better, but glitches still happen, right? Errors should be pointed out to be corrected so HL can be better competitors, shouldn't they?

WhiteWolf,
only minorly miffed now,
but boat-teching for the weekend...

PS: Happy Canuck Day, Guys & Gals
