Well i got a job at milestone rc track a few weeks ago and i wanted a baja 5b really baj since thats what they race there. So, i sold some stuff i dont use. (Including my 1971 Vw squareback haha) and bought a used baja 5b that had a 29 cc engine, aluminum shock towers, thicker shock shafts and dogbones, with an hpi tuned pipe and an airtronics radio system. BUT, i couldnt get it started so i took it to the track and my boss and a bunch of guys helped me try to fix it but we still couldnt get it to start. So, we took the head off when replacing the headgasket and noticed a BUNCH of sand/dirt in the engine. So, I bought a new Zenoah 2 bolt 23cc enigne, Then a set of pro line bow ties. And i called the guy i bought it from to let him know he sold me a pile of crap engine, and he sent me a check to pay for half the cost of the new engine. I thought that was pretty cool. Anyways, heres some pics of it now.
I just cleaned it so its not this dirty anymore.

Sounds like you must have had a really good deal, and even to boot, the guy gave YOU money to help buy a new engine!

Nice project going there, keep us posted on how it is coming along once you toss in upgrades and stuff

Get rid of that stock SS pipe. Get a rear DDM Dominator pipe!

yeah word up on the sweet find! most sellers will just say "too bad you bought it" so thats reaaly cool he helped out. that hpi pipe isnt bad, its protected, but youll prolly end up wanting more power, and yes, the rear dom is the way to go. i find once the prolines get worn in a bit thier traction kinda takes a poop- i put on some hostile mx's and i can wheelie in the grass.

No, i didnt clean it at all, there is a big nasty scratch in the piston wall so i didnt even bother wih it. Im going to tear it apart and clean it and rebiuld it to a 28.5cc.

Im going to get a GBE pipe for it after i get a 2.5ghz radio system.
Gabe, that owns GBE gave me a hand trying to get the old engine started at the track a few days ago, I still need to return his carb he loaned me. I figure since he helped me ill buy some stuff from him.

And the engine i bought i got it from Larry at milestone and i havent even paid him for it yet. He said i can work most of it off.

Ok, i cleaned it yesterday and then got it muddy today at my friends house in his front yard on his bmx jumps. Theres a random car in the yard too and i got it a bit muddy.

And the car that got roosted, the window was open and mud got all over inside the car too. Haha

Yup, ive run a gallon thru it in about 4 days. Its lots of fun, I like being able to not have to constantly tune it, Maby a little adjustment in the beginning of the day but then its just start and run for the rest of the day.

Well, the rear shock oil was waayy to thin, so, i figured id see how well 40wt would do in it. Not good at all, way to thick, I'm going to go get some 25wt and try that. What do you guys recommend for the rear? The front seems perfect, dunno whats in it but it works good.

well i run the thickest hpi shock oil they make and it works really well , but maybe you might bend shaft on the thicker oil so maybe safer to upgrade to thicker 6mm shock shafts as ive done, i always used to bend shock shafts the stock shafts after i converted to the thickest shock oil . And mate i think that on this entire largescale car forum i think that you get the award for getting the most use out of your baja5b and for getting it the most dirty lol ive never seen one that dirty after a run . I mostly run my baja5b's on road all the time now cos i havnt got the time to clean it .

if those line marks in the cylinder arnt too deep you can still run it , you just need a new piston with ring , it might run a tiny bit unregular but will still work

try a set of ramtech heavy duty springs, i run front and back on my ss and t. they really make a difference

the shocks are adjustable damping- you shouldnt have to switch oil weight. when running off road use stiffer damping- off road go as light as you can on damping and stiffen the springs. thats how shocks get bent.
