Haven't posted in awhile, the latest video of the JetNautilus v3.0 with DVVT. Just a fun day.

Here is another sub fun video. For anyone not familiar with the sub its version 3.0 of the 4 foot JetNautilus using DVVT. This means that it operates on both 12 V and 24 V.

There is no propeller, no dive planes, no failsafe or pitch controller, no servos and the rudder is fixed. There are no moving parts (except the pumps).

At about 2:08-12 there may be a small gator keeping an eye on Nemo. I couldn’t see it until I viewed the video, can’t be certain though.

Latest work

This is a continuation from several months ago when I decided to revise the mold for the JetNautilus. A new plug was made, and from that a revised mold was made. From that mold, version 3 of the JetNautilus was made. Since I was anxious to incorporate the latest developments into this new hull I deferred work on revising the remaining top half hull mold which has lateral keels built into it.

I am in the process of adding the lateral keels to the plug so that I can revise the mold with lateral keels.

The picture below shows the revised mold without lateral keels and the old mold with lateral keels.

Alternate view

The difference between the two other than the lateral keels is that the old mold is slightly wider than the new but this might not be noticeable in a picture. Also the deck is slightly taller by a few millimeter,in the new, since this is the portion most visible when the sub is in the water.

The picture shows hulls made from the current mold, version 3 of the JetNautilus, and an unfinished hull. To the far left of these is the new plug with the addition of the lateral keels, which I'm currently working on. When this plug work is complete it will be used to revise the mold which currently has lateral keels.

The hull shown next to this mold (to be revised) is used as a test bed for special effects creations. It was made from the "old mold".

The point of this is that if I can reduce the labor in making a hull I might be able to have a few available to sell.

This effort will be detailed in the following Yahoo site for anyone interested with only limited progress reported on RC groups so as not to burden the site. In this way I can get all the information in one spot.

It is public and anyone interested is welcome.

It is meant to be a solid outdoor model, durable and able to take abuse. It weighs about 13 lbs with a displacement wt around 34 lbs so that leaves about 22 lbs for internals, with a few lbs for positive buoyancy.

I'll post pictures as I add components in this build up.

The pictures show the new guide ridges which prevent the bottom half from any lateral movement. The plastic (Plexiglas) tab in the back prevents any vertical movement as does the single screw in the front. The bottom half tail portion with the plastic tab is inserted first and then the forward portion of the bottom half positioned and then secured with the single screw. So the entire bottom half is held in place by a single screw.

The following pictures show the placement of the port and starboard turning pumps and the excurrent jet nozzles. The nozzles are fixed in place and the bottom half Hull is cut to fit. The pumps themselves will be held in place with expanding foam. The last picture shows the single screw which holds the bottom half in place. The bottom half is basically just a cover.

This almost completes the plumbing and pump installation for the forward and turning thrusters. All that's left is some finish details.

They’re regular bilge pumps for regular boats, made to be reliable. I view them as perfect turbines for model subs.
