Status: offline 		Got my Redcat Vortex today. First impression is that it's a pretty good deal for $187 shipped. 4wd, brushless, rtr, even includes a 2000mah nickel pack. Battery is charging now so I decided to start messing with it. Swapped the ugly tires/rims for some 1.9 black TC dish rims and tamiya 3.5" rockhard BFG MT's. These tires will have no traction I'm sure. I also lowered the body 1 notch in front and 2 notches in the rear, still looks too high. Here's some pics, opted for the red just to be different.

Status: offline 		That's how the body came out of the box. I am however going to be removing some stickers and adding more accurate sponsor stickers.

I just finished the first testdrive. Like I expected, these tires give no traction, haha. They do look better though. For what i paid I'm very pleased with it so far. I have no temp meter but it seemed to get a little warm. 23T might be too high a pinion. I may pull the body and swap in a 17T pinion I have along with taller tires. Just to mess around with.

Status: offline 		Nice, that makes me really wanna convert my truck. Looks sick with those wheels/tires. Get a better battery, it makes a big difference. I picked a bunch of from allbattery on ebay. Tenergy brand. They work great.

Status: offline 		I'll probably run 2s, tenergy, rhino, zippy, whatever is the best deal. Right now it's hard to control with 6-cell nimh, but these tires are so hard it's like driving on ice. Gonna swap the stock tires on and play tomorrow, I know it'll run better but those things sure are ugly.

Status: offline 		I highly recomend staying away from any lipo that isn't in a hard case. I have seen to many cheap lipos vent and blow up.

Status: offline 		Well I had some juice left in a battery that I wanted to run down, so I figure why not run this thing. While I was at it, why not take a video. The road and grass really do it no justice, not to mention poor driver skills. I really need some dirt to play in with it. Anyway, here's a half dead battery video.

Status: offline 		Just to mess around with I swapped Duratrax Cliff Climber tires and a 17T pinion into my Vortex. Pretty entertaining, really gathered up the freshly mowed grass under that big body. If I didn't own an air compressor I'd hate to have to clean all that grass out. Got a couple videos.

Status: offline 		I like your Vortex Pix.. I have 2 of them myself. Just thougt u might want to see some of my photos. It's a great little truck and such a grat deal for so little price. Not to many people know about them so right off they assume it is a Chinese Slash "knock-off" but thats only because the body looks like it only smaller. Also shown are some side by side compairisons to the slash but its interesting to note they are both 1/10th scale

Status: offline 		Yeah mine has been fun. Only thing I don't like is the wheel/tire used. The tires on your red one are much better looking than the pins, but still don't look great. I've been thinking about stretching mine to fit a Slash/SC10/Blitz body and run slash or even backdraft tires on it. More ground clearance wouldn't hurt this thing anyway. To run realistic and have the body look and fit right, you kinda have to run the chassis low.

Those are both supposed to be 1/10 scale? Wow, that's quite a difference in size!! Are all Redcat vehicles smaller than the "normal" factory scale standards?? Neat trucks though, either way!!

Status: offline 		Well hard to say, The Slash is a bit large for a 1/10th scale and the Vortex is a bit smaller. Another interesting note is that the Aftershock is a 1/8th scale Desert Truck and it's older Nitro body is exactly the same size as the 1/10th scale Slash (see photo's)
