I need help with my newly purchased Spektrum DX5e. I cannot get the main gun on my Tamiya Tiger I to fire, if I move my throttle trim all the way down and then move the throttle stick all the way down then the machine gun fires. But when I move the throttle trim all the way up and move the throttle stick up it will not fire the main gun. Now I've already reset the DMD according to the manual (4 times I've tried), I've done this many many times on other tanks sucessfully on the DX6i. Please only post if you've got the DX5e working successfully to fire the main gun (don't really care about machine gun) on a Tamiya tank, with the steps you took to get the main gun to fire. And if you've put in a fire buttons please me the steps you took in order to get it working (pictures really helps or links to where it was done). Mine is set up to steer on the right and control/fire the turret on the left. Here is how it's set:
I have an AR6100 receiver (and yes it works with the DX5e)
Channel 1 to aileron
Channel 2 to elevator
Channel 3 to throttle
Channel 4 to rudder

I'm sorry if I'm coming off angry, but it looks like I have to modify it just so I can fire the main gun (If so could someone please tell me what you needed to put in a fire button and what you had to solder).

When you do a DMD reset put the DX5 rate toggle switch to the low setting. When finished resetting you toggle back to Hi setting the Main gun and MG should work at the extreme throw's without fiddling with the digital trim. You may also find you have to toggle back to low setting for turret movement or gun elevation but not a big deal. Both my Tiger and Sherman work great this way although I am using the AR500 should work the same with the AR6100.

I use the DX5e and a BR6000 Rx in my Pershing and fire the main gun with the channel 5 switch . Works fine you may have to move the rate from high to low but it works .

CH1-Rudd
CH2-Throt
CH3-M.Gun
CH4-Turr

I would like to have not to use the trim to get the MG to fire I have set 1 is yours set 1 or 2 set 1 the ratchet is on the right stick i added springs to mine and removed the ratchet tab to make it self centering .

Just tried it and it didn't work, maybe it's because the receivers are different. Thanks for your help though Hopefully someone can show me how to modify it and put in a fire button.

I don't have a DX5e, but, it looks like you should be able to do this quite easily:

Change to:
Channel 1 to aileron
Channel 2 to throttle
Channel 3 to elevator
Channel 4 to rudder

This puts throttle on the left stick and steering on the right stick.
Gun elevation is right stick up/down, Turret is left stick left/right.

Do the DMD control unit adjustment procedure with the Elevator and Aileron Dual-rate switches in the 'Low' setting.
That's where you teach the stick movements to the DMD.

Then set both the rate switches to 'High'.

You should be able to operate the Machine gun by, a quick down elevator stick movement, the main gun by a quick up elevator stick movement.
If you have the turret rotation on the Aileron stick, a quick right stick movement should turn on/off the headlights.

Thanks guys for your help , Alard I want to be able to control the movements of my tank on the right stick and turret on left stick (got use to the HL controls on my very first rc tank), but thanks anyway. I noticed when I reverse the servo on the throttle that I can fire the main gun (instead of machine gun) by having the throttle trim all the way down and then throw the throttle stick down. It's a compromise and only temporary until Ethan can show me how to setup a fire button.

Any news from edoubleaz? I think his set up would be helpful if shared here.

Sorry for the delay guys, going through a rough patch with layoffs at work. Haven't done anything model related in a while. I have managed to keep my position so I guess we can get back to the bench.

As per the DX-5E, I have mine set up completely the opposite as yours. I drive left, fight right. My biggest problems have been a lack of response on the firing side in general and the addition of the button has helped. I like the fact that the tank shuts down with he transmitter though.

The button is an easy mod. The key is to set up the DMD/MFU in the low rate, and then switch the transmitter to high rate when fighting. That kicked my tank into firing mode real quick.

I do not know if there is a big difference in how the channels work left to right. We may have a DAK meeting for tech stuff in the near future.

Ethan

I still cannot hear the gun sound. I tried the setup. No use.
Fire button will be a must.
