I'm looking for a small 3D electric to bring on vacation with me and for the occasional weekend flight at the ball field. I've been in nitros for the past few years, but I'm looking to get into electric.

Problem is, I can't spend a ton of money, so I was thinking of getting RTF (was looking at the Typhoon 2) and just throwing my Futaba 6EXAS into it, but I don't know if that will be more expensive in the long run.

Anyone give me some tips? Buy the Typhoon 2 (or some other RTF) and throw my radio in it, or should I be look at something else?

Thanks.

The Typhoon is a reasonable aerobatic/3D plane, that takes a beating and keeps on flying with minimal glue/parts. Your radio would be fine in it.

I second the Typoon 2. You can get a cheap one in pretty good condition on ebay that works really good if you already have a lot of the electronics. That is what I did and had one flying for about 80 (again, I already had an ESC and receiver and the motor it came with plus all the servos were good and I didn't need to replace them). Cheapest funnest plane yet!

Thanks for the responses. I'm more worried because as I've been flying nitros I have no other electronics like batteries and ESCs. Will I be wasting money getting the rtf and just swapping out the radio?

You can get the PNP version new for about $160, which has everything except radio and battery. You already have the radio, and you can get a suitable 3S 2200mah lipo from hobbycity for about $18 + shipping.

Or, as CWHFSR wisely suggests, you can buy a used one even cheaper - I got mine with a bunch of parts for about $75.

Hope this helps...Chris

I think not - but you can buy a very functional 6S charger/balancer from the same place for about $38

Actually, I just got this a few weeks ago: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEYD4

Apparently this will work with lipos.

If someone could help me figure out what battery I'll need, I would greatly appreciate it. I know next to nothing about batteries, especially lipos. 2s, 3s, 20c, 30c.
