with newer 72mhz receivers l've gotten lately Hitec supplies a "bobbin" on which one can wind up to @ 18" of the receiver antenna, starting 3 -4" from the receiver - and of course with the instruction to not cross over any of the antenna - just spool it
l have done so on a mid-size plane and a smaller Taylorcraft (which is not parkflyer as such) = and have had no problems or noticeable issues with flying; distance, etc
some guys question the practice - as it is in one respect "shortening the antenna length" despite not cutting anything off
the instructions do not mention any best practice - such as in use only with park flyer or something of that nature

is there a guideline for spooling the antenna - in terms of any range loss, chance of increased interference, etc or is it a primarily cosmetic enhancement for those that want less antenna to fasten down ant trail the plane in the air?

thanks in advance

(note: added after posting original: had missed a post of 6/27/09 concerning same topic = but would like some clarification if there is some - l have flown 400 - 500 feet away and no side effects - have l been lucky?)

The bobbin is intended for use with smaller models which would not be seen if flown at full range of 1500m+. Best practice is to always use the aerial full length when ever possible and irrespective always range test before flight. With use of the bobbin, if installed correctly, no effects should be obvious within say 500m, please refer to earlier information:
