Here is the second of a couple I guess.

Nordicz, nice field you have there. What direction from town is it? I'd like to see it from Google Earth.

The field can be seen from Google Earth it is SouthWest of Owatonna MN, The nearest intersection I believe is 48th st. and Lemond or CR7. Tim Johnson owns the field and it is the Southeast Minnesota Model Aircraft Club. Here is the web site addresss. www.smmac.com

Thanks Fizzmaster,

I didn't take them but by the smile on my face I can say I felt really good that day. But I really have to hand it to my instructor and all the help he gave me. My first attempt on the buddy box I thought this is going to not be good. Some sim time and a couple more attempts and I was off and running. You look like you also have a nice rural field to fly in..

It doesn't look like it. The tarmack is a multi-piece conveyor belt of different colors. That looks like the Municpal airport.

Actually, angled to the right (or left) is where your 2.4GHz antenna should be. If the top of your antenna points immediately at your model you lose a good deal of reception.

Deadeye,

My mistake the field you are looking at is our second field in the area. I did not recognize it because the capture is older than the crosswind runway the club put in. I maidened my winter build there in May. Go just a little more South West and that is the site.

Yip I see the antenna now . I didn't know it really mattered with 2.4 that the antenna should point to the right or left. Well you learn something new everyday

With ALL technologies, the radio nearly doesn't transmit from the top of the antenna. With 2.4, with those teensy antennae on the Rx....it becomes even more critical.

Well it is nice to see some one else openly boast that they flew a nexstar for a trainer.

I have one, I have to say, not disappointed with it at all. Although I did note peeps stating it has a bad right swing (tip) when lifting from the ground, and I was able to anticipate that. But I have enough flights on mine now in 1 year that the covering is falling off, I have to re-coat it now. Thank god for clear tape to hold it together until I get time to build my second plane and work on the nexstar over the winter. Watch the front landing gear screws and motor mount screw's on the firewall tend to come loose...

Is your covering coming loose yet? or is it that new still?

I started this hobby over 25 years ago and just did my solo couple years back! Got a plane for my birthday back then and shortly later ended up a single dad, and after getting my kids through school I took up the hobby again! I never flew but a little bit with a friend and never took off or landed the plane at that time. Now I fly as often as I can and like the War-birds most! But I remember when I soloed it was one of the happiest days I ever spent! and great people in this hobby are a plus. I will be doing my first War-birds fly-in next month at War-birds over the Rockies, Wow I love this hobby! Bob

Want to keep from crashing? take off and land higher!

I too flew the Nexstar as my trainer (the same one Fizz is flying as a matter of fact), and I never had any issues at all either. I think it does tend to go right on liftoff, but it does it EVERY time, so it is easy to counter. I think the Nexstar has the lowest stall speed of any plane out there. You can almost get it to stop in the air on approach, with no bad tendencies. I had fun flying it again while training him. Brought me back to my first flights.

As far as the covering goes, Fizz is the proud new owner of a slice on the fuse under the wing courtesy of myself. I was installing a charge jack, and thought the balsa went all the way down. In short, it didn't, and when I was slicing through the balsa, I hit the covering, and sliced it to the gear. A little clear tape fixed it. (Sorry again Fizzmaster).

That's a good looking trainer. You're going to have fun with that. Fly the heck out of it.

Congrats Fizz! Your lucky to have pics on your solo, I didn't get any, but I did get a dead radio battery. I was so excited (and shakey) that I forgot to turn off the radio and the plane. The bad thing was, I did remember to take the pin back. And CGretired is right about the "multitude of the forever broke" I just ordered my second plane and now I have a whopping $00.33.

Congrats from here as well. My son and I solo'd not quite 4 years ago. We had been on the buddy box for 6 total flights. Our instructor told us he had no problem with us going solo in calm winds. My son had a couple of days off school (he was 13) for conferences so we headed up to the field for our solo but, there was no one there!

We checked everything out and wound up doing a pair of solo flights each, totally unsupervised. We documented our "special day" in this thread.
