Hi Guys!! I am just about to finish a scratch-build Golden Era 60 (racer). Many, many hours involved (for me). Now that the wings and fuse are covered (Ultracote) I now need some suggestions for finishing-graphics. I've only begun to look around for them and don't really know where to go.
The fuse is (solid) burnt orange & the wings, tail feathers and cowl are (solid) black. Now I want to trim the fuse with some black and the wings (etc.) with burnt orange (...or something). Oh...I know I'll fugure something out, but I thought I'd turn to you guys first-it might save me some heartache.

I admire anyone that scratch builds! Kudos.

Soooooooooooooooo, I'll make and send you graphics for that model for free. Catch is, I choose the scheme.

What say!

PM if interested, I'll need some measurements.

Mikie,

Do a search for "new monokote technique". You'll find a video that is the best way to apply graphics you can design yourself. But... the video uses Monokote which can be applied with Windex. For Ultracoat you'll have to use a low heat application. I've done this by applying with Windex and squeeging out all air bubbles. I let it dry for a couple of days and then applied a low heat iron to the edges of the trim piece. DO NOT heat the entire surface of the trim piece or it will bubble. Mine worked well and has stayed perfect for several years.

Avaiojet / Charles (and others), Thanks so much for the reply(s)!! Charles, I am flattered you would want to participate in finishing this plane. I am interested in your offer. I would like to know more about how this might happen. I would like to help consult on the design...at least know what you're thinking.
I will be very glad to send additional photographs, measurements and anything else you might need. Again, this is an airplane designed to have been flown during the "Golden Era of racing" (pylon, I guess).
Also, thanks for the link to the other thread. Interestingly, I had alrteady been there and saw that...I already have it as a bookmark and a resource to use when the time comes to place the graphics. This should be fun!!
Write back and let me know how I can help. If you respond here, I will check back once a day. If not, feel free to e-mail me directly.

Thanks again guys!!!

Mikie,

I've had interest on the Golden Era for over 35 years.

Most on my framed but unfinished models are of that era. You wouldn't believe the list.

Your model is great, you should tell us more about it?

You can PM me about the graphics and scheme, I'll give you my personal e-mail.

The look has to be representative of the era, obviously.

I feel your excitement. That's great!

Charles, WOW!!! I took a look at your profile and saw all the stuff in your work shop!!! WOW!! I love the stuff you're building. Are you going to finish all those airplanes? The photo I looked at showed several large "Golden Era" airplanes that got as far as completely framed up...and then it looks like you moved on to another project. So, are you gonn'a finish them all?

Just wondering... Mikie

Mike,

I have ADHD and I'm not joking. I also don't take meds.

This is why I bounce around from model to model loosing interest frequently. I'm currently working on a scratch built jet, which BTW can be seen in a photo of my crib.

The Jet was first designed for prop. I'm eliminating that and redoing the fuselage nose area. It's starting to look more like a jet.

The other stuff I work on as I aquire the interest. Hopefully i will get them all done.
