1) Is the $200 (metal gears and track) version worth it?
2) ANy major problems?
3) Is the suspension reinforced? (the original HL tigers didnt fare too well until recently...)
4) Anything else?

Contact Blitz directly. He sells these, and he custom builds upgrades, too. He could walk you through all your questions.

With the stock motors and gearbox it would be slow on the turn but fast on the straight way.

With the upgraded gearbox and motors it will still turn slow but with power.

Well worth it,
I personally painted one for a customer and Phil did a nice install on the boxes. He's a pro with mods and just give him a buzz & he will fix you up.
It ran really good in my garden before i packed it up to ensure the tank was fully operational. Believe me, you won't be dissapointed with this tank...
I own a Tamiya King & the detailing on the Mattoro is super!

g/l & tell him mailedfist recommended this tank.

I agree, the matorro is a great tank so long as you get it done right (internal modificatons) As for external modifications, anything is possible

I agree that it is a great tank, I received mine from Blitz and runs like a champ, but, it will be undergoing a transformation, I have the parts all nicely laid out, pershing gearbox, and hold on to your hats, a elmod setup , which will turn it into a beast. Yes Phil, I still have not gotten around to installing it

Cheers,
Wade

i looked for one recently it looks a rearly good tank the only thing i seen to hear bad about them is they have naff innards looks great in terms of accuracy with the exeption of the weird bump on the front lower plate and freaky pink color scheme they retail higher than heng longs which is why i chose another hl over one of these i would be willing to pay that if they were better kitted out

It seems much of the concern is the tank not having enough power. I am eyeing the $200 one with metal upgrades at mao. If the metal gearbox is not strong enough, what upgrades cure this ill?

Oh, what is the news on the suspension? When I got my first tiger, the plastic spigots broke off one by one, I trust there must be some reinforcment?

Don't worry about the suspension on the King Tiger, it has held up very well, I hold bragging rights to have owned the first King Tiger in North America!

Mine has held up very well and can take a beating very well.

The early model KT's boards were not very powerful and if you put on metal tracks, make sure you upgrade the gearbox!

Also if you have the option to replace the board with a newer board please do so.

The King Tiger is a excellent tank to own and I am very proud of my beast!

The metal upgrade is sprockets and tracks for metal gearboxes you have to do it yourself or order from Phil and have him customize it for you I have one and have replaced the electronics and the gearboxes also the turret motor is weak on some of them later down the round I plan to replace the lower hull with a extra Tamiya KT one I have and replace the airsoft with the barrel and recoil from RC Command it will ether have EL-Mod or Tamiya electronics .

The pershing gearbox cures this but you will need to add a metal plate on the flooring to reinforce the hull so it doesnt flex, phil aka blitz can do that or, do a search on here phil posted a few of his KT's and show how to do this, i would search and post a link for you but i too lazy lol.

I have quite a bit experience with reinforcing. I cant tell you how long this took last year, and now asia-tam came out with a similar upgrade for only $120!
