Hi all, I was wondering if putting 11 t pinion gear on my HBK2 with 3900 motor and cnc head would work and if so what would be the results. I am using a Dx6i TX or should I go with a 10t gear
Thanks

hey slot, use this calculator for headspeed.  http://dhrc.rchomepage.com/calc.htm  if you're going over 2800rpm on the main blades  then use carbons,.   but yeah you should have no problem going with the 11t pinion.  headspeed will be higher and the esc will have to work harder.  as long as your esc can handle the additonal amp draw you'll be fine.

I agree the Dark horse calculator is a good link for figuring gearing , motor + battery size ect. I run an 11t on a 4200kv motor on my king with woodies and and stock head, no problems at all.

Well I guess that Tommy is a lot luckier than me, lol. I put a 4200kv with 11 tooth pinion on one of my King2's that was all stock except for the 43 tooth tail upgrade pulley. The first time I spooled it up , one of the tail blade holders split in half at the bolt hole and the tail blade flew off = crash. I put cnc tail grips on and next spool up one of the main rotor blade grips split at the bolt hole and the main blade flew off and almost hit me. You should be ok though with all cnc grips I would think. I just changed the pinion to a 9 tooth and it hasn't come apart again yet with the plastic grips.

Ugghhh that don't sound good....thats why I wear my mc helmet when I am blade tracking. Maybe my motors are not pulling the listed rating or maybe you got a real hot one...dunno. For the last year I have been using 1500 15 and 20c batts and seem to have adequate power to pull out of close calls. I just switched out my 4200kv for an extreme 400 and it does not have quite the snap of the 4200 but its ok. What make of motor did all that?? I would not want to put one in and get similar results.

Tommy
