Looking around for a kit to get me running on the 450. Found this through the banner at the top of the page. What are your guys opinion on it? I'll also charge my rc truck packs as well as handle LiPo's for a 500 when I get that far. At least thats what I THINK i'm seeing.

save your money! this setup is less than half. you can charge more chemistries & larger packs with the accucel 8. the zippy packs are excellent!

i have that charger and have no problems with it, quick and simple. The one sonic posted looks nice though, wish a123 etc was out and buyable when i picked up my charger.

I have that Hyperion charger. I love the fact that I can hook it up to the 110V AC outlet in my living room. No need for a separate power supply. Does the Turnigy from Hobby City have that capability? Just curious.

To be honest, I'm more than a little worried about using the cheaper import stuff. My buddy is using all turnigy stuff on his clodbuster and slash being he can buy more for less. He'll blow a battery once a month or so, and he's on his second charger. All this year. Its hard to argue with the price, and their charger is nicer by specification. Pretty products and rocky preformance doesn't make a good product. On the other hand, know two people that live and die by maxamps and have had one battery apiece blow on them. One as a result of a fast (100+mph) crash into a parked truck, and the other charging with a physicaly damaged cell. They've had no complaint on the chargers. The extra charging chemistries don't mean much to me. Have no use for the pB and won't be spending the money on a LiFe pack anytime soon.

As far as the battery goes, same preformance for 1/4 the price??? That makes me more than a little concerned. Nothing better than using an already unstable battery made worse by cost cutting.

Granted, these are my opinions. Anyone else using these turnigy chargers or zippy packs that can chime in??? Quality and dependability is #1, but saving a buck or two is nice too!

rc equipment is going to fail from time to time reguardless of the name on the label or the price at which it was purchased. i've killed just as much (if not more) name brand equipment as i have hobbycity product. my zippy failures were direct results of abuse or impact damage. while i wanted to believe that my brand name equipment (losi, spektrum, castle, etc) was less susceptible to failure, my experiences have led me to believe otherwise. did your friend explain what led to the failure of his turnigy products? was he operating within the product's specified boundaries? overdischarging of cells, inadequate power supply for the charger, improper charge rates, etc. while i understand your concern for quality in this area of equipment, its not fair to sell a product short based on one freind's experience.

that being said... when purchasing cheaper equipment from overseas, i like to follow the crowds. if HC has sold thousands of a particular model with little to no complaints, its probably a safe buy...

-heres 91 pages of discussion @ rcgroups on the accucel 6 link (this is the cheaper 6 cell model)

-over 100 customer ratings on the 25c version of that batt link

i JUST finished building a 450 and it has far exceded my expectations! (turnigy esc, turnigy 2835-3900, zippy 2200mah) the 450 is MUCH larger / menacing / dangerous / etc than the 300 class helis i've flown in the past. from a heli newb perspective, i think you're going to want more than one battery! 1.5 hours breaks between flights is not much fun at all. plus it seems just as i start to get settled and comfortable on the sticks, times up!

Alight, I'm thinking about the Turnigy charger. Book sucks through. As far as NiMh and LiPo packs go, Can I charge more than one pack at a time?

sonicj -> RE: LiPo battery set for 450 (7/14/2009 1:24 AM)

not on those chargers. you CAN get 2 chargers and run them off the same power supply though (if the power supply can handle it). rcgroups will have better documentation than the book.

+1 for the Turnigy Accucel-8 150W 7A Balancer/Charger. I picked one up at the beginning of the season and its been kickin butt!

hse32 -> RE: LiPo battery set for 450 (7/14/2009 3:49 PM)

How do you balance 2 Lipo on it, there is no plug

sonicj -> RE: LiPo battery set for 450 (7/16/2009 12:51 PM)

balance connections are on the side of the charger
