I had gotten the mods done to my firewall to accept the Slimline pitts muffler. I am going to work on the new cowl today and it will be finished. I had ordered a new cowl and the dummy engine kit from Tower. Problem is neither one comes witht he plywood part that the dummy engine mounts to. Kinda dumb if you ask me. It would be a total pain in the butt to make up a template and cut one out. It can be done, but you would think they would include it with either the cowl or the engine kit. I checked online and they don't sell it by itself either. I am going to rip apart the cowl I had cut for the Bennet muffler and reuse the dummy engine and plywood. It is going to be some fun getting it out of the old cowl though as I glued it in real good with epoxy and milled fiberglass.

My P-47 is finished except I still have to mount the canopy. I'm going to try E6000 glue. Any suggestions on how you mounted your canopy? I had to modify the rear sides of the cockpit in order to make my "Best Pilot" fit.

If you dont want to screw it down you could always use RTV.

Terry

Thanks for the suggestion. Have you tried E6000? Did you use RTV on your P-47 builds?

Thanks

Steve

I screwed mine on, but when i do glue them on i prefer clear RTV because it holds no glue runing down the side of the fuse before it dries, and it can be removed if you have to

Cap that does looke good.

the weather here is cold and its keeping me from painting so i have been painting pilots.

My P-47 is done again for now. Yesterday I removed the engine etc to make the changes to the firewall to accept the new muffler. Today I did up the new cowl. I am not going to put on the canopy or decals until spring as I will have to go over the covering one more time by the looks of it. The only hole in the side now is a tiny one with a grommet in it for the choke.

Hey Terry,
Are the Pappy Pilots poseable? They look really flat sitting on your bench.....LOL! Gotta get them legs broken and down onto those rudder pedals.

I finally solved the prop hub problem with help from Rick at Tru Turn. They carry a 2" wide B-style hub and A-style back plate that you can buy directly through them that Tower does not carry. I put it on my Fuchs 21x11 4 bladed CF prop with 2.5" wide center and it looks great. Rick drilled the 6 bolt pattern with countersink for the DA 85 for additional 10 bucks. The whole thing now look like they belong to each other. The original prop hub that came with the plane was a bit small for the 6 bolt pattern of DA 85. I can post couple pics to show you guys when I get a chance.

Guys....

Here's some pictures of my completed TF P-47...Yea, I know it's that same TARHEEL HAL , but I like the color scheme. It will be easy to see while flyiing. Spec's are DLE55, J-tech muffler, JR 921, Spektrum 6020 servos, 3-A123's, Mejzuik 23x8, Best Pilot. I used RTV to glue the canopy, worked out great. Thanks again to TFarmer and Gary for their build photo's.

It's my first 50cc Warbird. I've been flying a Extreme Flight's 50cc Yak and Edge for 3 years now, after I converted to gas models. Just concerned about a different landing techniques with a 50cc Warbird

Regards

Steve

Looks good!  Let me know how she flies with the 2-blade Mejzlik 23X8. I use the same engine and muffler on mine, but have so far flown it only with a Mejzlik 3-blade 22X10.

How much clearing do you have between the prop and the front edge of the cowling?

Hi P47 Pilot

I have a little more than 1/4" clearance on the right rear portion of the blade to the cowl. I had to add 3/8" plywood extensions to the standoffs of the DLE55 also trimmed the false engine assembly to get it against the inside lip of the cowl.

Regards

Steve

P.S. I will update my maiden information when it gets a bit warmer here in New Jersey.
