Wow...I really appreciate the reply....I am planning on doing one using SolarTex and latex paint....this would be my first(I covered several smaller planes with monakote, etc several years ago)larger plane, and first painting, and I think I could work with the solartex better than glass...do you think that would work? Thanks, B7

How does that Solartex and latex paint work. I hate wrinkles in the heat. That's why I was thinking about fiberglass. Any one tried it?

Where did you get the razor back"fiberglass" conversion and canopy?? I have the ARF but strongly considering the ARC to do in the razorback version as "Snafu"

This is another of the threads that I stopped getting email notices to. Most of the threads I subscribe to did this a few months back when RCU was having problems.

Anyway I finally got mine out for it's maiden flight last Wednesday. Moves along pretty well and looks some sharp in the air. I had to end up making a belly landing on some rough ground in long grass to the engine quitting at a very bad location when I was low and slow. Damage is very minor to the belly pan and I should be able to have it fixed and recovered in about 2 hours or less. Here are a couple of pics.

I'm recently retired, flew glo for many years and upon retirement decided to get back into it but with large scale warbirds. I recently purchased this TF P47 arf and have it nearly finished and should be ready to fly it (or have someone else maiden it who has more warbird flying experience then me) within a week or two. What I'd like to know is which control throws do you use for take off and landing? The manuel shows 2 travel rates both high and low. Is low for normal take off/landing and general flight and high rates for more hot dogging?

Any flying set-ups recommendations especially for someone like me who is new to the large warbird scene would be appreciated. I'm more into realistic and slower flight ....ripping holes in the sky at high knots of speed is something I'll leave to others far more proficient then me

Thanks,

Gary

Hey Terry,
Any chance you and some of your Warbird buddies can make it up to Pueblo West this weekend for our 11th Annual WARBIRDS OVER PUEBLO? It's a great time and lots fo flying. Weather is suppose to be in the mid 80's, dry and clear all weekend. The web site: skycorralrcclub.com can be checked for times, dates and directions. I can also be emailed at ronstark4445@yahoo.com with any questions.

HOPE YA CAN MAKE IT.........................................................CAPTAIN RON

I would have to agree with tfarmer96, just go by the book and you're OK.

I have flown mine for two seasons now, it is a very forgiving and gentle aircraft at low speed. With a DA50/DLE55, not to mention a DA85, it will perform any basic scale aerobatics maneouvre flawlessly. If you happen to land a bit slow, it basically does not flip but just mushes through and sits down gently on the ground.

For a re-entry inito scale warbirds after a little break, you could hardly have  made a better choice.

Here's min in excellent company earlier this summer.

Cheers and good luck with your project

P47 Pilot and TFramer96.

Thanks to both of you for the info and video/pix and encouragement. These are great looking aircraft.

The question I was asking though is do you fly (take off/landings) with the published low rates or high rates? Page 31 of the manuel specifies high and low rate throws.

Gary

Hi
I have been flying this bird for two seasons and it is the best flying model I own. I like to fly it in a very scale like manner and to be honest I never use the high rates. It does all the required manouvers as they should be. The first few flights I was lulled by her stability and treated her like a sport plane. Which was get her lined up, cut the throttle and glide in flaring at the at the last moment. Sometimes it would work but generally she would stall out at the last couple of feet off the deck. I beat up the gear pretty good the first month. I also did not use flaps, mistake, it has them use them. Like all warbirds this plane needs to be flown in with power. The link below is awesome and pretty much what I follow. My P47 does not require any down trim with flaps deployed. I drop them on the down wind leg and it takes a bit for her to settle in to the glide. I keep power on so she does not slow down to much and fly her to the landing. It would be interesting to hear what others do.

Hopefully this helps and good luck

I set my bird up with just the high rates and didnt use the low rates. I have put sevral of these together and they have all flow great right out of the box. The bird in the video was retired this year and the airframe given to a fellow club member.

Hi arsenaga

I have flown it with something roughly midway between high and low rates and then adjusted the exponential to get a smoothness in response trhat I am happy with. I really fly it off the ground, letting it pick a generous amount of speed before I lift it off carefully. On landing, I use full flaps, nose down,  with a gentle flare about 3 feet above the ground. This really works.

Cheers

What pilots are you guys using, the cockpit's definitely smaller than scale in these.

I used an Aces of iron 1/5 scale UASAF pilot in my first one and a 1/5 scale Best Pilots Bob in my second one.

Those best pilots are really nice, I have used the 1/5th scale pilots from Roy Vaillencourt (Vally aviation). They are $25-$30 range, fit well and paint up nice.
