LDM -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/16/2009 4:17 AM)

I like it , but it would not have been my first choice in color schemes

Check6 -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/16/2009 4:20 AM)

I'm with you on the color scheme, that's probably one of the worst ones around.

TrueScale -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/16/2009 4:36 AM)

I agree, hope they have an arc version too.

Chuck

mike early -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/16/2009 5:30 AM)

By God, no Kentucky Basketball fan can have a warbird with the word "Tarheel" on it.

Ron101 -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/16/2009 5:47 AM)

Good to hear.. I also hope for the ARC
I bet they will have it... they do with the gaint P-51
so it would make sence

Ron

jeff naul -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/16/2009 7:14 AM)

looks like the wing is fully sheeted so either version is wide open for bashing.

gunny11 -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/16/2009 9:45 AM)

Now I'm going to have to do some image searching for a better color scheme.

sweet,

ARC probably will soon follow.

MANFRED -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/16/2009 9:59 AM)

This plane was one of the ultimate expressions of air superiority during the war. P-47D Tarheel Hal was flown by Lt. Davis of the 358th Fighter Group, 366th Fighters Squadron, 9th Air Force in Europe during WWII. I likey!

LDM -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/16/2009 2:20 PM)

yes , we understand , and its not personal or directed to the history of the plane , its just a personal choice that would not have been my first and its obviuos that many feel the same way

P-51B -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/16/2009 2:49 PM)

Two things wrong with it.

1. Its not a razorback version. I would prefer the razorback, but would still consider a bubble.

2. The color scheme. This one is a deal breaker. No way I will buy this with this color scheme on it. I can't believe they didn't do the same thing as they did on the 60 size and do an O.D or similar with multiple decal options.

Hope you guys are right and they put out an arc.

JEFFHINES73 -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/16/2009 2:58 PM)

Hello

I for one am glad its the bubble top as I hate the razor backs as for the covering I think I can live with it cant wait to get my hands on one .

Thanks topflgiht its about time now make a giant P39 [:D]

Scotsman -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/16/2009 3:53 PM)

I hope the pictures on the Tower website are pre-production ones. They have the squadron letters incorrect. Tarheel Hal is IA-N, not the Ai-N they have!! OOPS, somebody not only can't "spell", squadron letters with a lower case in the middle is a first as well. None the less, the kit is a great flying airframe and I hope the ARF version is as well.

FalconWings -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/16/2009 5:27 PM)

If you can afford the $569 price tag shown.........save up a lillte more and buy a Yellow. I have both, Yellow is so much more scale.
TF is nice, but personally I'd love to have a model with the "potential" to win a scale event.

Number 1, Yes it would be nice - but not a big deal to convert...I have the plans.

Number 2, this is exactly right - look at the landing gear - it is piano wire...looks like some surgery to put some good gear in it.

warks62 -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/16/2009 6:23 PM)

Looks to me that the gear is just like they did on the P-51. It comes with fixed gear that has blocks that are the same size as Robart gear. That way you can install the Robart gear or similar or the fixed gear. It shows Robart gear as an option so looks like it will not need to be modified to fit in the retracts.

MANFRED -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/16/2009 6:35 PM)

I'm sure they will come out with an arc version at some point so everyone can be happy. Worse comes to worst you could strip her fuse and tailgroup down and repaint the cowl to you liking. As far as compared to a Yellow P-47, I owned one and I believe the difference from box to air would be at least 80 hours. You could strip this plane and glass it if you really wanted to go all out. I will get one of these and fly it in this scheme as it will make for tremendous visibility.

cocobear -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/16/2009 6:46 PM)

"If you can afford the $569 price tag shown.........save up a lillte more and buy a Yellow. I have both, Yellow is so much more scale."

While true please do mention the hundreds of hours to complete. Also, as to how scale, have you seen it? It is not a carbon copy of the kit. Please wait to judge. No ARF is legal for anything but funscale and this will net you the 5 points available. Just print the photos in this thread and hand them to the judge. This plane flies AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Javier-RCU -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/17/2009 1:31 AM)

Wich could be the better option compared with Hangar 9's JUG?

cloudancer03 -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/17/2009 4:08 AM)

I love the JUG...but the color sheme they are choosing is aweful!!I'll pass and go with another one.why did they have to color ir all up.If I was flying during an engagement back in the war and saw those colors I would have shot it down myself.ugly but still one of my all time favorite builds along with the p51D.

Chad Veich -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/17/2009 4:35 AM)

I'm not a big fan of the paint job either but it would be easy enough to change and I would probably strip it and glass it anyway. I'm glad to see that TF is continuing to add to their line of warbirds in this size, it means they are listening. As for the Yellow, it's a nice kit but its' scale potential is over estimated as it has a number of well know outline flaws.

rc34074 -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/17/2009 7:10 AM)

anyone who has built and/or flown this plane - do you think a g-62 would fly this plane well? I have one sitting lonely in my basement and would think it would be a good match for this plane.

I hope the retracts they use are not the robart 622P47 retracts. these retracts have some well known problems with the cams breaking etc

AirplaneMan04 -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/17/2009 8:20 AM)

I am very pleased with this! Finally a Giant Scale P47 ARF from TF !
However I am also disappointed! Why not a razorback version?
I too dislike the color scheme and hope perhaps like their GS P51
TF will offer this in an ARC. How much trouble would it be to add
a turtle deck and turn it into a Razor?

gunny11 -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/17/2009 9:46 AM)

Well, I found pic's of a plain color scheme. But who knows, I may find a better one later.

I too would like the razor back version.

Century jet might make a conversion kit for this one too. (razor back conversion)

Ps. I like the color scheme of my .60 TF P-47 that Scott Neary did from my club.

gunny

pettit -> RE: Top Flite Giant P47 arf IS coming (7/17/2009 3:38 PM)

The Tower hobbies website says "early August" for delivery.

They also have a link to the assembly manual. Open it up, and look for the first step, "Hinging the ailerons and flaps". They tell you to iron out the wrinkles with a covering iron and then jump to mounting the wing servos. There's no mention of actually installing the hinges with any type of adhesive.

Are they pre-glued?
