I don't know the aircraft so I cannot comment whether it is a good trainer etc.

I gather that you have never flown from your post.

I would recommend though that you get someone to help you. Let them look the plane over and also get someone who can teach you to fly - an instructor. You could try this on your own, but it might not end to good then. Yes there are people who have been self taught and some that tried.

The problem you have with your engine could possibly be due to your low end which is not set correct or a fuel system problem? Others will be able to help you better with this I think.

But definitely I would recommend getting someone experienced to help you.

Well, that's a step in the right direction. The Thunder Tiger MK2 looks like a trainer.. and you know what they say.. if it looks like a duck.. and so on..

From what I see, it's offered in the UK. I've not seen hobby shops here with it, but that only means I've, me personally, have not seen it. But, as I said, it looks right..

Now, you really need to approach this slowly. You will need someone to teach you how to set up the plane, set up the control throws so that you don't make it TO radical.. or, for that matter, radical at all. You want a nice smooth trainer with no adverse tendencies. So, keep the control throws down to the minimum as stated in the manual (hopefully, there are minimums in the manual).

Have someone go over it completely before you fly it.. making sure that the elevator works as advertised, that the correct contol stick is on the elevator, ailerons, rudder, throttle (sounds simple, but an easy mistake for a beginner) and that the throws are not causing binding on the serovs which will severely shorten battery duration in flight.

Get someone to maiden it for you to make sure it flys... and that it flys within the trim capabilities of your radio.

Get someone to buddy box up with you so you can learn how to fly. This way you won't throw away your hard earned money trying to do the improbable... learning by yourself.

And, best of luck.

CGr.

i have been trying to find a club in my area but with no luck so far they either dont reply to my emails or they are full so i am having to look further afield. i do have access to a large turf field so i can carry out tests on the ground but if i cant find a club within reasonable travelling distance i may have to attempt flights on my own i expect a few mishaps along the way self teaching but in the short term it may be my only option

I understand your problem with getting into a club. I do however think that you should get an instructor first before attempting any flights. I taught myself on a simulator and never went on a buddy box except for 5 minutes with a friends plane. It is possible, but I had my friend next to me when I soloed and that was good piece of mind. Self teaching is possible and one can succeed. I do however think there should be someone next to you when you try to fly. A few mishaps - maybe you will get off lucky, but remember you can also destroy your plane on the first take off run. Remember, an engine can quit on you in mid air or even right after take off? Do you know what to do then? etc etc. There are a lot of things which can go wrong.

I don't want to discourage you or think that you are not good enough. One can be self taught, but so many times it just ends up on negative note.

Good luck to you whatever the route is you decide to take

go to the club yourself ......most clubs don't respond to emails......as the web master has his hands full just keeping the site up to date.....I am going to be truthful with you, and this is going to sound harsh.....if you attempt to fly that airplane with out instruction you have better than a 95% of crashing the airplane....if you go with an instructor on a buddy box you have better than a 99% chance of taking your airplane home undamaged....
I wish you the very best

Lack of Response, what Response? internet, forget it expecting fast or any internet responses from many clubs is just about non existant. The fact is most most any club is a collective of people out doing their thing for fun and you simply cannot expect them to be run like a business in most cases even if they have a website.

You have to do you homework and get out there to network. Find them and go there. Please follow the advice of all the folks above. Yes of course its possible to be self taught and in the past that was indeed the only option However that comes at a cost without fail, I don,t care who who you are. That cost is always in the form of many repairs and or total losses (financial) along the way and perhaps even more important much more frustration and that added frustration is what causes so many new starts to give up without accomplishing their goal. See this all the time.

John
