No first flight today raining here being spring...... did start it up though and it sounds very good with lots of grunt, quite a nose up position on the ground but I feel you want this for this type of jet, also the tank is about 300-350 mm away from the carb so I may have leaning issues during climbs the manufacture states place the tank in backwards.... not me prefer it the right way around if it causes issues I may look at a regulator? what do you think

Maiden today, you know I hate GMS motors, thought I would give this one another go even though it cost me a mustang..... Took off and a bit of work trimming her up, couple of go arounds and yep bloody GMS died on me, came in dead stick and with a very fast glide knew I was going to over shoot the runway so lifted up the retracts and landed in the long grass, only damage was the brass parts on the front nose wheel which broke off so I was quite lucky actually I am considering removing the retracts and putting in cheap air ones, too be honest the quality of the retracts is OK but the design of the front wheel seems to lead to damage? I will also chuck out the GMS and go with a JBA engine (Budget cant stretch to a OS) I think this will be quite fast once I start wringing it out what about a 90 too big you think?

yah gotta fix the tank issue, that more than likely what caused your deadstick, if you have a check valve from a ys or the likes put it in the exhaust pressure line, and lean it as far as can be tolerated, to compensate for the fuel surge.

Im sure it didnt help but no the GMS did the same thing on the ground and lost me a mustang in the past, I will be addressing the fuel issue as I have an old pump going spare so I might set that up

I have pulled out the GMS and are putting a new motor in it have gone with a smaller size but it will still be ok JBA .61, I have also ripped out the retracts that come with it are are installing a set of pneumatic ones, I will have to make the front wheel non rotating now, not a bad price on the retracts $NZ200 for a full set of 3 with all the fittings

Hi

have read through this thread mainly to see the thoughts about your idea of putting a an Os ax55 in it but no one seems to have commented. To me that or a webra speed 55 with a 11*8 pusher would seem to be ideal?

The 55AX would give you (conservatively) somewhere around 90mph and 6 pounds of thrust with the 11x8. I have two of them spinning MAS 3 blade 12x6s @ 10,500, which still amazes me.

Hi bob

Yes i think your about right with that, i think a bigger engine would just mean a heavier plane with no particular speed gain?

btw i have another operational arrow which i set up with your slightly altered cg flies great (scotts old one).

Good to hear about the Arrow, Simon. My three Laddie based deltas are all doing well. The glow and electric flying boats now share a set of foam core wing panels (1/16 balsa sheeted) and the Bullet uses my original built up Arrow wings.

The Bullet's retractable gear has worked out especially well: absolutely no problems after close to 100 flights, and withstands the some of worst landings I'm capable of. I usually get it right, tho, hauling the nose up at the last moment and touching down at walking speed.

I initially balanced the electric one at the glow Arrow's CG with the tank full. It acted tail heavy at that, tho, and it was hard to keep the nose down in a glide. I moved it a bit forward, maybe 1/4". Haven't checked it. Flies great now. My favorite winter, frozen lake covered with snow airplane.

Been there, solved it...

The GMS in a pusher gets VERY HOT in the air and seizes/deadsticks.

You need to set it so rich that it bogs down at idle on the ground and is about 600-800 RPM or MORE below peak on the high end.

That will stop the deadsticks.

Or maybe a heatsink head.  I noticed you thought it may lean out on a climb.  I think it may richen out if the tank is in front of the motor.
