Well it's still flying, got around 15 flights on it now.
I darn near lost it today, had 4 others guys flying some "Big" pattern stuff at the same time, I took my eye off it for a what seemed like a split second to check the runway after calling landing on a long wide downwind, I looked back... I was diving straight in. Only luck-not skill saved it. I had no time to think, pull up and rolled till I figured out what was up/down, The weeds were still in the gear when I finally landed... On the runway. My wife was there and said Oh Honey that was a neat trick....
Haw.
Fooled them again.
That would of broke my heart to loose my first twin that way. I'm still In awe of this little twin, flys nice, got it to land on a dime. And the sound on a low fast pass is to much......
I hope it lasts tell I get this Giant OV-10 Kit built. A big step I know, But I'm going for it.

Hi all,
I have been following this thread for some time and have been trying to build one of these P-38 profiles. Well I am at about the 80% complete stage and thought I'd throw my two cents in to the discussion. Have had a few discussions with warbirdnutty aka Joe and am now ready to show it all. I am not the flier, I am the builder so please be kind!! This whole project started when I purchased a YELLOW Aircraft P-38J for my son's birthday. Not having ever flown a model twin (he flies Saab-340s for a livelihood) he was concerned. So when I saw the Profile P-38 I thought what a great way to practice before we go BIG! He agreed so that is where we are today. Oh Yes forgot to mention we are also in the final stages of building our first gas powered model a F4U from GS with Robart pneumatic retracts, another first. I can just imagine whats going through your mines, two certifable plane nuts. Your right of course but we are having the time of our lives. Perhaps a few photos would help.

It is all done for pleasure, by learning on a plane that's easier to fly the pleasure should last a lot longer.

I have about 35 flights on my P-38 so far. I have OS LA 25s on it and use the throttle linkage as described in the kit. I have no problems synching the motors and have only lost an engine one time (first flight). It snapped right away on the .25s. Only altitude saved it. My p38 flys great but not fast enough for me. If I had to do over again, I would put Magnum or OS 32s on it and leave the mechanical throttle torque arm like it is. I would also reinforce the tail booms.

I thought I was the only one that tried to fly a Corsair without a wing.

Had the nylon wing bolts break during flight and for about 3 seconds I really thought I could still fly the lawn dart.

Didnt happen, it lawn darted in but the wings were in great shape after fluttering down to mother earth.

OK guys,
Next photo will show my completed wing!! This will be the last of the F4U as this is a TWIN forum.
I hope to give you all my updated P-38 construction pics.
Oh yes forgot to mention I am also about 25% in to the construction of a Cessan 182!
I won't mention the Fiesler Storch that is still in the box.
Kind thoughts for the old man please.

Bill,
Here is proof that we intend to fly our F4U with WINGS!! (See attached photo)
Frank99,
I'll get the kit makers name to you late today, its over at my workshop in my son's house. Thought I'd make your mouth water by including a photo of the real thing. Taken at the Deutsche Museum in Munich.
regards,
jack
PS: If any Saab-340's got in there I apologize.

Frank99,
Sorry about the delay in getting this info but I was sidetracked last evening.
The Fiesler Storch Fi-156 is made by Aviomodelli (Italy) and is distributed in the US by www.internet-rc.com.
From my cursory inspection of the box it looks like a quality kit.
Good luck buddy,
jack

frank,
Sorry good buddy but we plan to go with a RCV-90 or 120 to fit in the cowling of the Aeromodelli Storch. I know about the Rommel version, although I am sure there was such an aircraft, I have no pics or knowledge. I suggest a search with those search words on Google or Alta vista.
regards,
jack

Joe,
They recommend either 7.5-10 cc 2 stroke or 10-15 cc 4 stroke. WS is 82inches, fuselage 55inches, wt. about 11 lbs.
I am not sure when I'll be able to start it, perhaps this winter.
regards,
jack

I have Saito 30's on my P38 and it flys very well. Saito 40's or OS would be to much and I am not sure the nose structures are sufficent for the 40's. I am going to switch to a couple of OS 26 4 strokes and don't anticipate any performance differences. I'm not sure yet, but I think the 26's or lighter. I have also flown this plane on a pair of older Fox 15's and it flew very well also.

Joe,
No, I am still a way from the first flight. Just got the rudders installed and their linkage. Am having some alignment problems with the elevator and rudder servo-push rods. I just keep "truckin" on. Here is a progress pic such as it is.

jack

Actually the OS 26 with muffler weighs in at 275 grams vs. the Saito 30 at 270. I would imagine the 30 puts out a little more power as well. I would stick with the 30's.

Hey Guys, I saw one or two question about retracts on the p-38 so I thought I'd show you a few pics. I put tower hobbies 3-gear set on with relatively minor alterations. I'm flying two os 25fx with 9x5 apc props. She needs about 150 ft to get airborn but really hustles with the gear up. I have to land alittle hot but usually pull a little flair before touchdown and let her run out. I fly on a grass field, so the front gear takes some abuse, but hasn't caused any problems. Have flown about 60 flights so far. I built a battery box on the elevator for balance. By doing this, Ididn't have to add any weight, even with the front retract.
